Obama rally stagehand and supporter of the U.S. Navy fired

His crime?  He was wearing a George H. W. Bush cap and hoodie and this upset his boss, the local union thug:

Don't try wearing a Bush hat or sweatshirt at an Obama rally.

Duane Hammond says it's what got him fired. Hammond is a union stagehand who was part of the crew that built the platform for the Obama event on campus.

He came to work early this morning wearing clothing that says "George H. W. Bush". Hammond's son is in the Navy, currently serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. George H. W. Bush.

Thankfully, the union thugs came to their senses:

***UPDATE: Duane Hammond says union officials called him this afternoon to apologize for the incident. He say they are "bending over backwards" to make it up to him.

With props to my brother John for the find. He rightly cites this as yet another example of the tolerant left.

Please! It is a example of being expose and bending to public pressure. If they were tolerant, he wouldn't have been fired in the first place.

Also a fine example of unions looking out for the little guy.

You'll note that this guy got canned because of a perceived "political statement" - as opposed to being fired for being incompetent.

But we don't have to look any further that Juan Williams to find another example, do we?

Care to dig up an actual example of a union member being fired for incompetence?

The news guy says the Navy Dad was "fired," but the Navy Dad doesn't say so. He says they made him take off his hat and turn his hoodie inside out. Which is stupid as hell, but it's not "being fired."

Sounds to me like one powerdrunk union official, half-literate perhaps, saw "Bush" and tried to push Navy Dad around. When Navy Dad made a stink, as he should have, the situation was resolved.

Bruce Henry:

Vote suppression, Mr Thug? Whose vote was suppressed? Job termination? Apparently everybody involved still HAS a job (including whatever dumbass union official tried to push Navy Dad around, which he/she shouldn't).

Freedom of speech? Yeah, except nobody but that one bully was trying to suppress it, and when the situation was brought to the attention of other, cooler heads in the union, it was addressed.

Congratulations, Michael, on finally mastering the spelling of "fascist." For months I was confused and hurt by your repeated references to my "facism" in other threads. Good job, genius. Now work on the definition.

That didn't go over well with his union supervisor. Hammond says he was told to take off the sweatshirt, or he would have to go home.

I'm pretty sure this is a story about a bad supervisor who fired a worker for no legitimate reason. I'm not sure why this is being made into, "leftist thugs". I haven't talked to a single person on the left who isn't outraged by this, so I'm curious why one bad supervisor suddenly represents the face of the left. Anybody want to clear that one up?
