This is getting a wee bit scary, folks... several UPS cargo planes have been isolated and detained after "suspicious packages" from Yemen were detected. The terms "manipulated toner" and "negative for explosives" are being tossed around, making me think atomic/biological concerns. The planes are on the ground in Newark, Philadelphia, and England.
Also, in Portland, Maine, a federal building has been evacuated over a "suspicous package."
And the anti-Marine sniper has apparently struck again.
In all our squabbling over our own domestic politics, every now and then we are reminded that there are other issues, bigger issues, that transcend them.

I don't think that this transcends the political situation. Everyone is currently talking economics, but we can never forget that the current crop of elected traitors is responsible for our security and safety, and have been doing a pretty dismal job of it - bowing to terrorist supporters, doing nothing at all about the very serious threats growing rapidly (Iranians fueled their reactor the other day...) around the world.
I disagree that this is could be an October surprise type situation. The very last thing that the current administration needs is a reminder that there are people out there dedicated to killing us. That issue is a dead loser for them.

Ya, it's likely that those old lady lefties wearing pink and wearing sandals are breaking out their rifles and attacking the USMC.
A disgruntled ex-Marine like Charles Whitman or Lee Harvey Oswald is more likely, IMO.
And, when the "suspicious package" in Portland or the "manipulated toner" blows up, let us know.
In New York, the bomb squad responded to a report of a suspected explosive device inside a package aboard a UPS truck, said the deputy police commissioner, Paul Browne. Police later concluded that the truck, at the Metro Tech Center, contained nothing harmful.

From Barry's friends at the AP:
The package in England, discovered aboard a plane in East Midlands about two hours north of London, contained a toner cartridge with attached wires and powder.....
"The president directed U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies, and the Department of Homeland Security, to take steps to ensure the safety and security of the American people, and to determine whether these threats are a part of any additional terrorist plotting," the White House said in a statement.
So I'm guessing that Homeland Security would have done NOTHING until Barry "directed" them?

The thickheadedness of some knows no bounds. So far we've been told by leftist "progressives," variously:
Population explosion: We'll all die of mass starvation unless everyone stops having children or starts getting abortions quick, before it's too late!
Global Warming: We're all gonna die if we don't start doing exactly what the Statists say, quick, before it's too late! Al Gore = Noah! Get in the ark!
Stimulous/TARP: Must pass now or face sure economic ruin! Quick, before it's too late! Never mind that it has had precisely the opposite of the touted effect.
Too big to fail! Must take over every industry that cannot stand on its own feet. Especially those in which unions have a big stake! Quick, before it's too late!
Christians must go! They want to institute a theocracy! Tear down the crosses! Build mosques! Quick, before it's too late!
Rethuglikins want to starve old people and children! Dirty air! Dirty water!
Frankenfoods! GE Foods! We're all gonna die!
McDonald's is giving toys to children! Horror! Ronald McDonald is a killer! Ban him! Ban him now!
The list goes on...
Meanwhile, we've actually been attacked by Muslim terrorists more times than one can count. Said attacks are likely to continue. Pointing that out somehow qualifies as "scare tactics." What a morally deficient rube.
