Jeremiah Wright's sermons are coming home to roost

When you sit in the man's pews for 20 year and you appoint a guy who pretty much makes Wright's sermons the basis for policy at the Justice Department, then you can't help but wonder about that which is the basis for this Pigford bill being debated in Congress:

Zombie covered some of this "math" that Representative Bachmann speaks to way back in July:

• There are approximately 40,000 African-American farmers in the country.

• Of that 40,000, not all of them have gotten into financial trouble. Some have successful farms.

• Of those who had financial trouble, not all of them sought out loans. Some tried to stay afloat on their own.

• Of those who sought out loans, not all of them sought out loans from the USDA. Some got loans from banks or friends.

• Of those who sought out loans from the USDA, not all of them were denied loans. Some got the loans as requested.

• Of those who were denied loans, not all of them were denied due to discriminatory racial practices.

In the end, a total much much smaller than 40,000 could legitimately claim to be victims of discrimination.

As shown above, it was originally estimated to be no more than 2,000 possible total plaintiffs.

Somehow, that number quickly swelled to 16,000 wronged claimants.

And now, as of February, the government has announced its plans to hand out at least $50,000 each to over 70,000 more claimants, over and above the original 16,000.

This means that the U.S. may be recompensing at least 86,000 African-American farmers for past racial discrimination. But how could that possibly be true if there are only 39,697 African-American farmers in existence nationwide? And if only some subset of them ever applied for loans in the first place and were then unfairly denied loans?

It really is looking like reparations... but if one of you have a different explanation, by all means, weigh in.

The Obama administration is going to set back race-relations for years to come. To some, it looks a lot like payback. Those who have looked more closely at Obama's background and history will be convinced it is.

I have no problem with correcting a legitimate wrong, but I want to see heads roll for those who committed that wrong. And I want to see heads roll tomorrow for those compounding it today by committing even more wrongs against the taxpayer.

The question about how nearly twice as many payoffs as there are/were viable complainants has not been answered or even addressed by those deciding how much cash to just start handing out.

Sounds like Liberal Logic (patent pending) to me - equating one type of screw-up with another, and then claiming that the existence of the first justifies the existence of the second.

But remember, conservatives are the stoopid ones.

I think it's more like hogs at the trough than social engineering.

And the only way I'm equating the two is the government's inability to get it right. And if you're going to get upset about them giving a few million to some black farmers who don't deserve it, what about the other farmers who are getting much more and did nothing to deserve it?

Jeff, many of us here are not pleased with the ideas and schemes the government comes up with. Paying farmers NOT to grow is one of the many schemes related to food production I and others take issue with. But that's not what this post is about. It's about this one, right now, which will cost billions we don't have paid out to those whom no one seems to know has any right to it.

Other schemes the government perpetrates do not have to be brought up or referenced in order to legitimize being "upset" about another.

They wouldn't want to face charges of RAAAACSIM from the likes of the thoroughly non-partisan NY Times or Washington Post. It might cost them some of that massive, black, republican voting bloc!!!

Questionman:

Does sound a little fishy, but since Bachmann just makes crap up everytime she opens her mouth, I would bet all her facts and numbers are all BS anyway. Hope they figure it out and get it right. Also, the only ones setting race relations back are right-wing slimeballs like rushie the racist pig.
