The family's statement is most moving:
Elizabeth Anania Edwards, mother, author, advocate died today at her home in Chapel Hill, surrounded by her family.Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth's presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life.
On behalf of Elizabeth we want to express our gratitude to the thousands of kindred spirits who moved and inspired her along the way. Your support and prayers touched our entire family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wade Edwards Foundation which benefits the Wade Edwards Learning Lab at www.wade.org.
Might God give her rest and surround her family with His comforting and consoling presence.

Yes poor suffering Elizabeth, and to think a lot of her pain was caused by her husband, a real, self-admitted narcissist. Narcissists of course, believe they are entitled to whatever they want, whenever they want.

About the only good thing that can be said about her passing is that her suffering is over. I hope to God that she's in a better place.

Disagree. I feel bad for her kid, but that's about it. I don't really care either way beyond sympathy for her family. Edwards was a virulent kossack, and furthermore she was quite content to go along with the charade that got a violent lunatic like Johnny boy dangerously close to power.
I don't ever wish death on anyone, but I don't believe in sugar-coating just because someone passed away either.
If that's not cool, so be it.

I've been debating whether to do a separate posting on Ms. Edwards, but I think I'll just leave my thoughts in a comment.
As Trump noted, she was welcomed to the ranks of the Kossacks and was a moonbat to the core. She was also a willing enabler of her husband's self-destructive narcissism and covered for his infidelities for the sake of political gain.
I also find myself wondering if her husband's history as making his fortune off of suing doctors might have been a factor in her treatment -- would some doctors who might have helped her simply decided it wasn't worth the risk of incurring John Edwards' wrath?
