I read this whole piece earlier and I think Sissy Willis deserves to be credited with having the guts to tell the truth about Elizabeth Edwards. I pray for her grieving family, and I sympathize with the pain of having to deal with a husband like John, but as I have often said regarding the Kennedy wives, she knew what she was getting into.
Women who marry ambitious, power-hungry men are, generally speaking, no angels themselves. Willis bravely quotes this scathing assesment of Elizabeth: "At times subtly, at times blatantly, she was forever letting John know that she regarded him as her intellectual inferior. She called her spouse a "hick" in front of other people and derided his parents as rednecks. One time, when a friend asked if John had read a certain book, Elizabeth burst out laughing. "Oh, he doesn't read books," she said. "I'm the one who reads books."
Apparently this is how she chose to cope with Edwards' political success, and perhaps his wandering eye. Sadly, it was a poor way of showing him that she was the one he needed to be with.
