MSNBC has cancelled it's highest rated show, Countdown With Keith Olbermann. According to The Wall Street Journal:
MSNBC and Mr. Olbermann have been discussing parting ways for some time, according to a person familiar with the matter. That person said they ultimately came to a financial agreement to end his contract two years early. The host signed a four-year deal worth $30 million in 2008.Neither side offered an explanation for their split.
Olbermann made no mention of what he will do next. You can watch his final sign-off below.

I like watching Keith's show it is very informative and is very straight forward unlike Fox News which many of you foolishly watch even though you know you are being lied to makes me think of the war in Iraq a war started basically on lies and was proven so yet we continue to fight there JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.
I respect Keith's journalism so much that I got hooked onto his show i was flipping through the channels a year and a half ago seeing what all the major news networks are talking about off course Fox news just made me switch the channel right away then same thing happened with CNN but not as swift as fox I then turned to MSNBC watched the whole episode of "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" and was immediately hooked not only can I see the true sense of journalism from this guy I can also see what he was bringing to the show was the Truth something foxnews is the opposite of.
I am very disappointed with Keith's decision cause hes one of the last few real journalists around that will tell it like it is much less so with Jon Stewart who although chooses the satirical route with his show yet he tell you the news without covering up the truth like foxnews yes foxnews. One thing that comes to mind that may be the reason for his sudden unfortunate departure might be the Gabrielle Gifford's shooting and the not surprising post response from our very patriotic politicians. I couldn't be more disgusted when Sarah Palin and the likes thereof acted like they had no accountability for what happened even though she proudly used terms like RELOAD! I can see why Keith might not want to be any part of such a corrupt and atrocious system of government where blame is passed onto each other instead of claiming accountability like Keith did and surprisingly John McCain. Although they are not directly responsible for the Arizona shooting they stood up and said something out of their hearts instead of their behinds like Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, & Rush Limbaugh have been doing.
I wish Keith all the best kind of like how i did the same with Dan Rather who was also a journalist I had huge respects for its a shame how we just keep sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss where the truth is very hard to come by its all up to Jon Stewart Now.

Something to chew on here. It could be that as a part of the Comcrap deal, MSNBC had to fire Olbermann or Comcrap would not finalize the deal. We all know what an ass Olbie was, especially his notorious asshole of the week segment. He was rehired after after getting fired right after the election, because pressure was brought to bear. Perhaps. But at least they're consistent. I've noticed that Olbermann doesn't seem to talk about war all that much since Obama started taking up space in the Oval Office. In fact, Keith suddenly stopped talking about all of those topics that had him fired up in the past. You know which topics I'm talking about: Gitmo, Afghanistan, The Patriot Act, corporate cronyism, 'enhanced' torture, etc. Why doesn't he talk about them now? Because it's his president that's completing Dubya's third term, and so he's suddenly okay with those policies. Because he's a political hypocrite.

What they need is for Keith to be re-employed right now. How about establishing him as spokesman for the CRU at the University of East Anglia? They could drop a sandwich-board sign over his shoulders (something simple, in keeping with Keith: You Didn't Believe Me, Now Die) and put him in front of the BBC cameras every evening from 9-10. Side benefits would be that the relocation to the UK would feed his I'm-the-second-coming-of-Edward R delusion and we'd be rid of him.

Well, I have to admit that I get confused myself sometimes. I have lesbian friends who call other women (not necessarily other lesbians) dykes, butches, princesses, and bulls. Perhaps it's only within the context of intimate conversation and that makes it okay. But even then, isn't that a breach of PC protocol? Since I enjoy a certain amount of anonymity here, I'll venture to say that I usually laugh when they go on their tirades. Maybe I shouldn't. Are we just taking this too far? Is the rule that it's okay for lesbians to poke fun at lesbians à la Margaret Choi, but not okay for pedestrian discussion? Anyway, I sincerely do get confused sometimes. I'm also aware that I can be an insensitive lout (So I've been told).
But, back to the topic. We are in agreement in our skepticism of television. I rarely watch it these days, but do drop in on the likes of Kieth Olbermann on occasion. And I have noticed a drastic change in his show since Obama took office. Don't you find it interesting in the least that subjects in which he heatedly discussed prior to Obama's ascendancy (The Patriot Act, for instance) have magically disappeared from his post-November 2008 lexicon? You see, I think that things like The Patriot Act should be discussed regardless of the occupancy at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. And if the Patriot Act was pernicious under Bush (and I believe it was and still is), it should warrant the same amount of attention under Obama. Don't you agree? So, I actually find myself in agreement with ideas on the left and many positions on the right, but both seem to be inconsistent. Shouldn't we be consistent in our stances? So, either Olbermann is schizophrenic or he is dishonest. Maybe a vacation will do him good.
But, what about regular Joe Democrat? Take a look at this Notorious Rambo guy up above. Don't you suppose he was fired up about The Patriot Act under 43? And shouldn't he be holding Obama and media divas like Olbermann accountable? Yet, Notorious Rambo has this seeming blind allegiance to Olbermann and, one would assume, President Obama. This shouldn't be and American politics will never recover until we all, regardless of political affiliation, begin to hold elected officials and talking heads accountable.
Conversely, I hold much of what I see on Fox at arm's length as well. I suspect they also have an agenda. But, I will give them credit in that their message hasn't changed and at least they are consistent. Therefore, at least from an integrity perspective, they receive a better rating from me. However, the bar has been set so low these days that it doesn't much matter. I agree with John Prine: "Blow up the TV".

Good points Clay. So far, the only 'consistency' on the left has been hypocrisy.
hyper dislikes name calling. Where's the leftest indignation when the likes of Shakedown Jackson uses the term "Kikes"? How about Looney Farrakhan and Wright with "Whitey"? More recently, Gloria Hernandez and "gringos"? The "turn the other cheek" crowd would never say that to a Black or Hispanic addressed in derogatory racial terms. But everyone else is?
Hernandez got called on the term, but blithely came back with the 'fact' that the term - as noted in a Spanish dictionary located in the Royal Library in Madrid did not indicate the term was derogatory. She did not respond when I mentioned that I volunteer at a local kennel that raises/trains dogs for the handicapped. At the kennel, the term "bitch" is not considered derogatory. Therefore Ms Hernandez should have no problems in future contacts, when the salutation begins with Yo Bitch!.
Somehow, I think otherwise.
I'll be looking forward to when the "outrage" is more than a One-Way Street.

When a redneck bigot refers to a lesbian as a dyke, it's not okay. When a lesbian uses it, it's normally in the sense of having 'reclaimed' the word. So, rapper saying 'niggaz': not offensive. White scum saying 'niggers': grounds for a serious beating. Gay dude calling another gay dude a 'flaming homo': obnoxious but usually pretty funny. Heteronormative homophobe calling a gay person a 'faggot': grounds for a serious beating. Anyone who is bothered by that is just mad that they don't get to hurl epithets at minorities with impunity, like in the good ol' days. White people are privileged and it's just hilarious that some of them are annoyed that minorities get away with saying things that they don't get to say without repercussions.
From what I know about Olbermann, he was a boorish partisan hack and I'm glad he's not on television anymore. However, the anti-semitic ass-clown named Glenn Beck is much, much, much worse than Olbermann, and the fact that millions of people take that sonofabitch seriously makes me weep for the future of humanity. He endorses books and authors who are explicitly xenophobic and cries fake tears and people take him seriously. Utter, utter morons.
Think I slept through church, Clay. I'll catch you there next week. ;)
GF, what makes you think I give a shit about what Louis Farrakhan has to say about anything? Do I care what you think about David Duke? Actually, I think it goes without saying that you probably don't find his views very reasonable. Seriously guy, is everyone who doesn't share your political disposition guilty of endorsing every awful person who falls roughly on their side of the ideological spectrum? If Louis Farrakhan posted on this blog, I would call him a racist asshole, because he is a racist asshole. I like to think I'm pretty consistent.

Keith Olbermann is brilliant and brave. He stood up to all the lies from the right wing. He was a celebration every night that we saw and heard this amazing man. He will be so missed until he appears again. Maybe with the press for the current President Obama?
