Yeah, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler got injured, but that didn't stop the doubters about his heart. Examining the four teams left in the NFL playoffs as of Sunday morning from a mostly disinterested perspective, there were only two teams that I envisioned as "worthy" of getting to the Super Bowl - the Steelers and the Packers.
My problem with the Jets and the Bears are just with Rex Ryan the Jay Cutler, respectively. If Cutler's NFL career suggests anything it's that the guy is a punk.
The only thing better than Cutler not pouting through the Super Bowl buildup is that we're all sparred the bloviations of Jets coach Rex Ryan. Ryan can now devote more time to his wife's foot porn career, flipping off fans, and telling the world how great his team is.
Thankfully now I can enjoy the upcoming Super Bowl for the football, not these two annoying sideshows...
PS - I haven't forgot about the Ben Rapelisberger sideshow from the preseason, I'll be pulling for the Packers...

For the Upset Old Gal and me the balance of the NFL season blossomed into "it's all good" last Sunday when the Jets eliminated the Patriots. First thing Monday morning we went out and bought the largest bag of premium salted shell peanuts available.

I hope Coach Ryan is able to get a good seat for the Super Bowl.
We're proud to include his big fat mouth among the things we vanquished on the road to the Super Bowl.
May the Jets enjoy "Wait 'til next year" as much as the Mets.

What's that phase? Oh yeah, the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.
In two weeks it will be "game on." Mr. Rogers and his neighbors better be sharp if they want to take home the trophy.

Note to #3. The real Mr. Rogers was born, raised and lived in Pittsburgh his entire life. All the Mr. Rogers shows were made at Pittsburgh's WQED public television station. Mr. Rogers was an avid Steeler fan.
So in order not to upset children accross the nation the Steelers will win the Super Bowl.

You folks forgot the most important aspect of yesterday's outcome. Obama's threat to attend the Superbowl if the Bears went.
The whole SB would have been turned into "Narcissist Central" on TV. The ticket holders, that herd of cattle, would be frantically trying to reach the venue through the motorcade clogged streets and the strip searches at the gates.
Then, if the Bears won; the post-game speeches, trophy presentation, locker room appearances. Oh, the nausea.

Bill F. - I'm ok with that. Like I said, it's all good for us once the Patriots were gone.
Oldflyer - Since W attended Dayton (for a while) I was willing to give The Won a pass on SB, We'd have just turned off the tv for a while whenever the sportscasters wandered into the swamp. That's what we do now whenever we start to hear the 110th retelling of how the Saints saved N.O.

With EH running the refereeing crew, the Jets couldn't mug the Steelers the way they did the Patriots. Too bad they don't have a training camp for referees so that games are called within the same guidelines. But, wait, it's the NFL of mugger-in-chief, Goodell.

I don't know any more about the truth of the Big Ben story than YOU do, pal. But we ALL know that some skank female would never CONSIDER trying to blackmail a multi-millionaire. Skank because very, very FEW girl-next-door types wind up nailing someone on the first glance...er, date. As you undoubtedly know, about 70 years ago, Errol Flynn was accused of rape. The trial judge made a legendary comment to the court, exclaiming quite properly that he doubted Errol Flynn would have to rape ANYONE!!! Given his fame and dough, Ben would find himself in the same situation I suspect. Root for the Packers against my Steelers if you wish. Maybe because we've already won 6 Super Bowls. But don't make silly comments.

#10: A woman was probably raped by an ogre in a bathroom at a bar and the police helped the ogre get away with it--and you call her a "skank", because only women of ill repute get bullied into having sex, or raped outright.
What word do you use to refer to males who put out on the first date? I bet it isn't "skank".
Sad that so many Steelers fans appear to hold dogs in higher esteem than women.

hyperbolist, there are a few points it would be nice for you and the rest of the haters to consider.
1) The police didn't help "the ogre" get away with anything. The woman you insist was a victim requested that no charges be brought because she didn't want to deal with the media intrusion in her life.
2) Two drunks exercised poor judgment. Isn't it a bit chauvinistic to assume that a drunk woman is automatically a victim and a drunk man is automatically a criminal? I don't have to hold women in lower esteem than dogs to question the double standard at play here, or to recognize that the man in question had objectively more to lose than the woman.
3) Based solely on publicly available facts, the only person we know absolutely committed a crime is the 20-year-old woman who was consuming alcohol. That, in and of itself, is a crime, and she in all likelihood was using some form of falsified government identification to commit it.

Is that why Roethlisberger accepted a four game suspension? Because he didn't do anything wrong?
The drunk woman was a victim. Alcohol is a date-rape drug when consumed by naive, star-struck idiots. Roethlisberger is a terrible human being. Cheer for him if you want. It's not the first time he was accused of it (Andrea McNulty ring any bells?). It's easier to get away with rape when police obstruct justice and you can afford a team of lawyers and fans like you seek to publicly shame the victim because the accused plays for your favourite fucking sports team. I like how you acknowledge the reason why she declined to press charges (probably would have received quite a few threatening phone calls from misogynistic sports fans).
http://www.newsweek.com/blogs/the-human-condition/2010/04/28/raina-disapproves-how-police-handled-the-roethlisberger-rape-allegations.html
The comment about dogs was a remark on the fact that Michael Vick running a dogfighting ring was a terrible thing and it took him several years (3? 4?) to rehab his image. People seem to want to put Roethlisberger's sexual assault to the back of their memories a lot sooner. Probably doesn't hurt that he's white, and it probably doesn't hurt that he's won some rings.

He accepted a four game suspension because he violated the league conduct policy. Even the man who issued the suspension said he didn't disagree with the district attorney's findings...
"My decision today is not based on a finding that you violated Georgia law, or on a conclusion that differs from that of the local prosecutor. That said, you are held to a higher standard as an NFL player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible, or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans."
If you really care you can find the entire text of Goodell's letter to Roethlisberger on the web.
The drunk woman was a victim. Alcohol is a date-rape drug when consumed by naive, star-struck idiots.
Again, they were both drunk and exhibited the poor judgment you'd expect of a couple of drunks. They were both drinking before they ran into each other. Every decision she made after meeting him was hampered by the drinks she'd decided to consume (illegally) before meeting him. Interesting that you think only one of them should be held accountable for the decisions they made.
It's not the first time he was accused of it (Andrea McNulty ring any bells?).
Would that be the Andrea McNulty who a co-worker in a sworn affidavit said was happy and boastful about having sex with Roethlisberger immediately after the fact? How many rape victims have you heard of bragging to co-workers about being raped?
The comment about dogs was a remark on the fact that Michael Vick running a dogfighting ring was a terrible thing and it took him several years (3? 4?) to rehab his image.
It took Vick 3 or 4 years to rehab his image because he was actually convicted of federal offenses and spent nearly 2 years incarcerated. I realize it doesn't fit your narrative, but black or white it's kinda hard to rehab your image when you're locked away in Leavenworth.
