They were outnumbered, you see…
Lone Nepali Gorkha who subdued 40 train robbers
POKHARA, Jan 13: Gorkha soldiers have long been known the world over for their valor and these khukuri-wielding warriors winning the British many a battle have become folklore.
A retired Indian Gorkha soldier recently revisited those glory days when he thwarted 40 robbers, killing three of them and injuring eight others, with his khukuri during a train journey. He is in line to receive three gallantry awards from the Indian government.

They were obviously expecting a compliant group of 'victims'.

Had this been in NYC or any other major city in the US; the guy would be sitting in jail, charged with multiple murders. Then the tort lawyers would be next in line.

If they made this story into a movie, no one would believe it really happened. Courage, humility, respect for a girl's honor (read the details in the story), Bishnu is a hero by anyone's standards.

Just shows what a well trained, determined, and level headed guy can do to common street thugs. Forty to one, just a about even odds. Not a bad way to walk back into your unit, he won't be buying many drinks for a while. mpw

Could Shrestha have shown more valour and gallantry? He took on forty enemies armed only with a knife, killed three and wounded eight, was himself badly wounded in the fight... and did it to save the honor of a girl who was a stranger to him AND for the honor of his regiment and fellow Ghurkas.
Now THAT is a man!
Oh, and I also noted this at the end of the article:
"I would have been a meek spectator had I not carried that khukuri."
