Well this pretty much takes the cake for brazenness...
TUCSON, AZ - Drug smugglers trying to get marijuana across the Arizona-Mexico border apparently are trying a new approach -- a catapult.National Guard troops operating a remote video surveillance system at the Naco Border Patrol Station say they observed several people preparing a catapult and launching packages over the International Border fence last Friday evening.
If the criminals had gone to college they would have known that water balloon launching funnels would have done the job in a much more discreet fashion...

Technically, that's a trebuchet. But then since when has the MSM been interested in accuracy?
It's not a bad choice. A trebuchet could send very heavy objects hurtling 100s of yards quite easily.

No, jim m, that's a catapult. It's using tension as its motive force. A trebuchet uses gravity, with the use of a very hefty counterweight.

Those troops should disassemble it and store it. In a few years, when the economy collapses because of the incompetence of the government, those will be the only weapons we can afford.

Interesting.
Maybe we could use it to launch illegals back over the border.

Are you sure those are National Guard Troops disassemblying it? In order for them to be doing that, they would have to enter Mexico to get it, and that would amount to invasion. Not that I really care, but I am curious.

JT,
I see. Rather than using tension at the axle they are using tension at the far end. Crappy design. They should have come up with a better design.
A PVC pipe and an air compressor would have been more mobile and more powerful.

Due to impending budget cuts, the AZ National Guard is testing new, less expensive artillery platforms. Testing has indicated that the system is also quieter with less of a blast signature than previous artillery pieces.

I say get an anti-aircraft gun and blow up the packages as they go flying across the border. Don't know if it would work, but it would be a lot of fun.
