It's smoke and mirrors. It's par for the course for this Administration.
They sell it publicly as follows:
Startup America is the White House initiative to celebrate, inspire, and accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the nation.
This coordinated public/private effort (see: Startup America Partnership) brings together an alliance of the country's most innovative entrepreneurs, corporations, universities, foundations, and other leaders, working in concert with a wide range of federal agencies to dramatically increase the prevalence and success of America's entrepreneurs. Startup America is an important element of President Obama's overall innovation strategy.
The core goals of Startup America are to increase the number of new high-growth firms that are creating economic growth, innovation, and quality jobs; celebrate and honor entrepreneurship as a core American value and source of competitive advantage; and inspire and empower an ever-greater diversity of communities and individuals to build great American companies.
But someone inside the White House, in a rare moment of honesty, spilled the beans:
"Technically, we are all on the same team now, so why would a company that is working with us so closely on 'Startup America' or some of the other 'pro-business' projects we've been announcing want to give financial support for the campaigns of Republicans?" says a White House policy staffer who will shortly be moving to a new job at the Democratic National Committee's expanding 2012 campaign operation. "It's one more way to engage corporate America. We know many of the executives are predisposed to Democrats, this is just a way to build more connections."
Or more accurately, just another way to fool the gullible into thinking that this Administration is all about advancing America.
What they're really about is advancing a radically leftist agenda.

The way to grow jobs is for government to get out of the way. Specifically, we need stable lower taxes and much less regulation, two items that are anathema to Obama and his minions. His agenda is only pro-growth if we are talking about the growth of government.

Well, I guess this will take away at least one of the arguments of the trolls who visit here that the Republicans are serfs to the interests of business. Then again, maybe not because in this case it looks like Obama wants to make business the lieges of his feudal progressive kingdom. If you are an entrepreneur who needs help with Startup America good luck when Barry sends his "friends" by to collect on his favors.

Crony Capitalism. They do it like drug dealers, lure them in with some advantages, keep the competition down, throw some contracts their way. Then start tightening the screws until the business is run at the pleasure of the ones calling the shots in government. By then, it's too late, and the business is effectively owned by the politicians. Happened nearly 80 years ago over in Europe somewhere, "Third", um, something... trying to remember. Didn't work out too well, as I recall.

A stunning example of sheer naked greed unencumbered by any hint that the creators of such an unscrupulous use of our nations highest office have ever had the slightest inclination to actually serve the people.
We already know that to be so but still, to witness yet another brazen ploy to manipulate the elements of society for craven political ends just makes an honest person feel a loss of hope creeping up his spine.

Exactly, Mr. Evilwrench. Just another attempt to lure the technology industry (surely chosen because Obama's egghead caucus predicts that it will be THE growth sector of the future) into the government fold with promises of corporate welfare, no-bid contracts, and the ability to write their own rules and regulations ... and to extract millions in protection money - er, campaign donations - for Democrats.
Actually a bigger scale experiment like the one you are referencing took place a little bit south in a country called Italy ... that one didn't work out so well, either.
Milton Friedman said it best -- "The free market is the natural enemy of capitalism." More free market and less crony capitalism, please.

Oh, would the Dems do something that underhanded? Why yes, yes they would:

Fine words, certain to give any liberal/ leftist a raging chubby. "Coordinated," "alliance," "working in concert."
Want to "dramatically increase the prevalence and success of America's entrepreneurs?"
Then fast-forward to November 2012.

Govt. can help in two ways. One is expediting approvals and permits. This does not require spending tax payer money. The other is channeling tax payer money to projects rejected by the professionals in the economy because they are loath to waste their own money. The democrat answer to any problem is to spend and raise taxes, kill babys, anal sex or some combination of the above.

What they're really about is advancing a radically leftist agenda.
It's not even particularly leftist, except in their ultimate goal of ruling over society by virtue of being the "vanguard party" -- the natural elite who know that they are the most worthy to rule, because obviously the best and the brightest would have to believe as they do.
These clowns may be leftists in formal ideology, but in practice they're extreme corporatists, to the point of being monarchists -- atheists who nevertheless subscribe to the Divine Right of Kings.
