Sandra Bullock does it again

In the wake of September 11, she donated $1 million for the victims of the attack and back in '05 she donated $1 million to the Red Cross on behalf of those suffering from the Indonesian earthquake and follow-on tsunami.

Today we hear that she's done so one more time:

Actress Sandra Bullock sent a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross this week to help with earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan, the Red Cross said Thursday.

It is the largest celebrity donation to the Red Cross to be announced since the disaster struck last Friday, although the charity may have gotten large contributions that were kept confidential at the donors' request.

"This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan," the relief organization said.

The contribution was made by the Oscar-winning actress on behalf of her family, the Red Cross said.

Classy.

And it gives us the opportunity to run this picture one more time:

I give her more credit for this than for what Lady Gaga and Katie Perry did by donating song proceeds. Not that their efforts aren't appreciated somewhere along the line, but Ms. Bullock opened her OWN wallet for the cause instead of cajoling others to do so while garnering the credit for it.

I've long thought Tinseltown's last shreds of class disappeared, but I am happy that Ms. Bullock proves me wrong.

And, I think I'm correct, for the third time - the Red Cross announced it. Ms. Bullock didn't hold a press conference to announce what a great person she was. She just gave the money. It would be nice if the rest of the entertainment industry acted the same way.

What a dumba**. Doesn't she know how much more beneficial that million would have been spent if that excess cash was instead taken in taxes and the federal bureaucracy was controlling that money instead of her donating it to charity?

-

I wish these moronic rich people whining about not being taxed enough would go take a tour of someplace like Carnegie Mellon University and go get a few libraries and such named after themselves with all this excess cash they want Uncle Sam to spend because they can't seem to figure out this 'philanthropy' thing (maybe they should talk to Bill Gates, he seems to have some idea how that works). Hell, I'd applaud the fat**s if he decided to found a clinic somewhere that needs one and they called it the Michael Moore Health Center or something to take some of the burden off Medicaid or whatever. Tell me the Stephen King Library doesn't have a nice ring to it. Best horror section in the nation, don't you know.

Tammy Scott:

As much as I loathe most of the people employed by Hollywood, Ms. Bullock does seem like the real deal--a genuine, principled lady. Thank you, Sandra, for setting the bar high; and to agree with poster #6, ODA315, yes, Jesse James is stupid, and my husband would add "obviously blind."
