Homosexual? Want Freedom from the Addiction?
There's an APP for That

The inflammatory headline for this story posted on Left tilting Yahoo News reads "Apple, Steve Jobs under fire for approving app that claims to cure homosexuality."

Of course, the APP purports to do no such thing, and logically, cannot do such a thing. What the APP does is promote Exodus International, a Christian Ministry. And Liberals want it banned.

"The Exodus ministry seeks to promote the "ex-gay" movement--promulgating the testimony of people who claim to have been cured of homosexuality through Christ. The target audience for the smart-phone app, its makers say, are "homosexual strugglers." The idea is to teach gay people that they have a choice when it comes to their sexuality, a choice to choose "freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus."

Of course, providing a tech platform for a particular spiritual or ideological movement doesn't signify an endorsement of its point of view. At the same time, however, as Gawker's Ryan Tate noted during an earlier controversy over a gay-themed app, "every time Apple approves an app, it implies moral endorsement of the content of that app."

And since average Apple user is younger and more culturally tolerant of homosexuality, word of the Exodus app has sparked a fast-growing protest. As of this writing, more than 100,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling on Apple to abolish it. What's more, some who've purchased it are somewhat baffled by it."

Obviously, because these wireless APPnuts are "more culturally tolerant," except, of course, when they're not, and are simply being aggressive religious bigots. Or opposing freedom of speech.

Mr. Jobs, I say let the wireless APPnuts mess their diapers. Any reasonable adult knows that if the APP is not viable in the market place, it will die a quiet digital death. But we are not dealing with reasonable adults. We are dealing with progressive fascists, who are at best petulant adolescents, demanding that which they do not like be stopped; silenced; eradicated.

I guess they're "more culturally tolerant" that way.

If Apple bans this, I will never buy an Apple product again. I'm tired of Christians who follow the Bible being treated like this.

Matt:

Isn't there and App to opt out of Apps you don't agree with? If the Apps you load on your Apple are by choice, then just opt not to App and be done with it.

I'd tell Apple to leave it be in the name of freedom of speech. Mark Fiore's experience gives us a good example of what happens when Apple decides to consider content in its role as the App Store gatekeeper.

Granted, Apple is a private company and can do what it wants with its walled garden. But at the same time, Apple has an alarming habit of acting like a censor. And it also has an alarming habit of using its app store dominance in ways that approach being anticompetitive. IMO, at least.

Left tilting Yahoo News

Calling Yahoo News "left tilting" is like calling a subdural hematoma a "bad headache."

As for the left-wing neo-Nazis who wish to ban anything and everything that even tangentially calls into question their viewpoints or lifestyles, it's useful to keep in mind the underlying source of their malevolence: Leftists, simply put, are crazy.

Jim Addison:

If you read the accounts of people who work retail and "genius bar" for Apple, you'd never buy their stuff anyway.

But I understand their products are "must have" for the gay community, which accounts for most of their market, so I understand why they might ban an APP that offends a large segment of it.

Gmac:

There's a much simpler solution, don't buy their products to start with. From some indications and market tracking Apple is a VERY small segment and that's ALL their products.

hyperbolist:

MS's market share is certainly larger, Gmac, but Apple is now a bigger and more profitable company and MS's declining share is a trend that will not soon be reversed. Who cares though.

Jim Addison, if by "gay community", you mean "the creative class", sure. You're probably trying to say the same thing, except you happen to be making yourself look like a shitty person in the process.

Jesus Christ has healing and delivering power for the homosexual, pedophile, lesbian, sex addict, transgendered, and all sexual deviant behavior to set people free! The same Jesus who saved and delivered the prostitute in the Bible is able to cleanse the human heart and make you whole. When you repent and renounce the death-style of perversion, God's Holy Spirit will change you once you receive Jesus Christ genuinely as Lord.
