With Japan staggered by a natural disaster and a nuclear crisis, cruise missiles launched against Libya in our third Middle East conflict and a majority of U.S. senators complaining about a lack of leadership on the budget, President Obama decided it would be a good time to schmooze with Brazilians.
His "What, me worry?" presidency has given both Americans and our allies plenty to worry about. But in the process of making nice with Brazil, Obama made a mind-boggling announcement that should make even his most loyal supporter cringe:
We will help Brazil develop its offshore oil so we can one day import it.
We have noted this double standard before, particularly when -- at a time when the president was railing against tax incentives for U.S. oil companies -- we supported the U.S. Export-Import Bank's plan to lend $2 billion to Brazil's state-run Petrobras with the promise of more to follow.
Now, with a seven-year offshore drilling ban in effect off of both coasts, on Alaska's continental shelf and in much of the Gulf of Mexico -- and a de facto moratorium covering the rest -- Obama tells the Brazilians:
"We want to help you with the technology and support to develop these oil reserves safely. And when you're ready to start selling, we want to be one of your best customers."
Obama wants to develop Brazilian offshore oil to help the Brazilian economy create jobs for Brazilian workers while Americans are left unemployed in the face of skyrocketing energy prices by an administration that despises fossil fuels as a threat to the environment and wants to increase our dependency on foreign oil.
I can't wait to hear Obama's defenders defend this one.
Stand by for sheer idiocy.

All in all this president is trying to train Americans to accept that the bar on what is considered a "vibrant" economy is set much lower than anything we have imagined in the past. I am sure as he looks across the world above his upturned nose he would assert that if worldwide unemployment rate averages 8 to 10% then there is no need for him to work harder to help the United States post a more exceptional, lower level of unemployment.
It is words/actions like this by Obama that make me feel like 914 (#1). I confess, there is a side of me that would like to see Sarah Palin get the nomination for President. It is a crazy wish in a way because in saying that I don't see any way she can beat Obama in an election. However, in the debates leading up to the election I think she is one of the very few who would not hesitate to very directly - and I mean VERY directly - make Obama explain statements like this that he makes. We're not going to get it from the MSM. I can't think of any logical reason he could justify his statement on encouraging the development of offshore oil supplies in Brazil while shutting down the same process on our own domestic supplies. If any Obama apologists who post here frequently understand his reasoning, I would certainly welcome a clarification.

Like a toddler who throws his toys around, he's not thinking about the long term - he's just looking for immediate gratification. If something breaks, he discards it and goes to the next toy. We're not working right - so he will need to find something else wants someone who'll play with him by HIS rules.

So now he'll travel around, looking for folks who'll play his game We're not grateful enough for what he's done for us. WE are not WORTHY of his attentions. So he's going elsewhere, telling them how great THEY are while passing out our money so they can develop something we desperately need.

The resident idiot woop is correct in that Oil companies make large profits. However, what the moron fails to notice is that the top 10 Oil companies (based on proven reserves under their control) are all foreign companies and that they're all state owned.
They are:
* National Iranian Oil Company
* Saudi Arabian Oil Company
* Iraq National Oil Company
* Qatar General Petroleum Corporation
* Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (UAE)
* Kuwait Petroleum Corporation
* Petroleos de Venezuela.S.A.
* Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
* National Oil Company (Libya)
* Sonatrach (Algeria)
Each benefits from the fact that Ninety four percent of federal onshore lands are off-limits to oil and gas exploration, while 97 percent of offshore federal lands are off-limits.
What woop also fails to grasp is that when facts are introduced into his argument, it's an argument in favor of domestic drilling and production.
However, referring to them as greedy little pigs and fat slobs......looks to me like woop has a problem with muslims and others of middle eastern descent.

Obama's ARRA (the "stimulus bill") included $2 billion to develop offshore oil - off the coast of Brazil. There was no requirement America or American companies get anything out of the deal, either - although several American firms are benefiting: those who left the Gulf after Obama cut off operations there and moved to Brazil.
Woop ~ I understand you are very dull-witted, but try to wrap your tiny little brain around the concept: oil companies don't set the price of oil, the market does via supply and demand. The price of gasoline is closely related to the price of oil.
