This time it's the real thing:
President Obama opens his reelection campaign on Monday with a familiar cast of consultants; an economy that's improving, sluggishly; wars that he is struggling to extract himself from; and an implacable partisan fight in Congress that might shut down the government by week's end.
The Obama campaign made the announcement in an e-mail to supporters, accompanied by a video. Obama will hold several conference calls on Monday with donors and supporters and will begin to raise money for his campaign late next week.
"We're doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you -- with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build," Obama wrote in the e-mail.
"So even though I'm focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today. We've always known that lasting change wouldn't come quickly or easily. It never does."
I know, I know ... I should have expected the worn out 'one neighborhood at a time' and 'I'm completely focused on my number one priority' talking points, but seriously, is this man capable of anything besides the same warmed over cliches?
Now that America is off its Hopium high and in the midst of a deep and painful withdrawal, what do you, WizBang readers, think will be the focus of Obama's 2012 re-election campaign?

He doesn't have to even promise Hope this time around. He'll do what President Clinton did in his re-election campaign: he'll claim to be the firewall between the public and those evil republicans. He'll point to the years under President George W. Bush and tell folks: this is what happened the last time the GOP ran the country. Do you want that to happen again?
It's the obvious strategy, and the GOP had better be prepared to counter it.

Well in essence the 3 themes will be be "blame it on XX", "who are you going to believe? me or your lying eyes" and "Honey it isnt what you think"
and they are in essence the same thing.
Economy - blame it on bush
unemployment - blame it on GOP house and Bush
Failure in Libya - (It will be failure even though he will try to spin it as a win) - blame it on neocons.
Iraq - He will say it is a success despite Bush and only because he was President.
Afghanistan - (see Iraq above) blame it on Bush for not doing enough sooner.
Inflation - Blame it on Bush and GOP. He will claim to have saved the world with his policies.
In short it will be "who are you going to believe? me or your lying eyes"
This will be like a woman catching her husband in bed with the neighbor and him saying "Honey it isnt what you think"

Class warfare.
He will blame the lack of income growth on the greed of conservatives and corporations (but not GE or GM). The BLS will continue to push out favorable unemployment data showing that unemployment is going down while they keep reducing the size of the labor force in order to achieve those numbers.
We will get months of how we need to tax the rich and how if we just tax them enough then the deficit will be eliminated (despite the fact that confiscating all wealth won't eliminate that).

Well, a few points are worth mentioning:
1. Obama doesn't need to have a 'focus' for his campaign. He can say anything. He can say one thing one day and the next day say the exact opposite. It's not as if the media will call him on it.
2. People who vote for Democrats, in general, and for Obama, in particular, are morons. If Obama literally took a dump in their living rooms they'd smile and fawn and say that it smelled like roses. All the Obama campaign has to do is to keep these idiots barely engaged such that they don't actually sleep through the election. Their votes are guaranteed, regardless of how disasterous conditions are in 18 months.
3. Next year the GOP is heading for a self-destructive primary fight. The media knows this. The Republican establishment knows this. The people running Obama's campaign know this. Obama needs only to stay out of the way and let the GOP primary base destroy the eventual nominee's chances in the fall general election.
4. For whomever the GOP nominates the numbers will be daunting. There's no way to make inroads in the black vote. There's virtually no way to make inroads in the Latino vote. There'll be no way for them to get their message through the filters of the national media. There's no way to keep up with, much less match or exceed, Obama's fundraising machine. It'll be a tough road to hoe.
