Instead, they were treated to a standard Obama political stump speech -- and found themselves as unwitting and unwilling props as he lashed out at them and their policies and programs, and unable to respond without breaking decorum.
This should have come as no surprise. It is what Obama does.
Remember his first State of the Union address? He made a point of lashing out at the Supreme Court over the Citizens United Case, denouncing it as "wrong" and unjust -- by lying about the details of the case and the decision. And the Justices of the Court in attendance had to sit there and take it -- the one justice who, stunned, murmured "that's not true" -- was denounced for even that shocked response.
This is what Obama does. He goes to places where he can speak free of any fear of interruption or contradiction, where his opponents will be there and constrained to not speak up, and then attacks them.
There's a term for this kind of thing. "CAD."
Actually, that's several terms. It's an acronym I came up with.
Chickenshit. It's an incredibly petty act. It scores cheap points, but points out the essentially cheap nature of the person who scores the points.
Asshole. What kind of a person arranges for people to be put in position where they have to sit there and take insults and attacks -- especially false ones -- and not be allowed to hit back, deny, or have any kind of reaction? Especially people that the attacker will have to do business with in the future? Only an asshole.
Douchebag. Only an incredible douchebag could think that they could not only pull off this kind of stunt, but pull it off repeatedly -- and not suffer any consequences, and Obama has pulled this off twice now.
Obama has made it clear has has nothing but contempt for the Republicans in Congress, and that should be kept foremost in mind for all future dealings. The Republicans should make a point of putting serious preconditions on any future public meetings with Obama -- and publicize those conditions just before the meeting.
It's not necessary that they start treating Obama in a similar manner, but it must be made loud and clear just how much of a chickenshit, asshole douchebag he has been in the past, and they will not put up with any more chickenshit, asshole douchebaggery in the future.

Sadly, this is the only reason why we need someone like a Trump for right now. The traditional Repubs don't have the balls to call out the asshole like he deserves. We need a bomb-throwing self-promoter to do the wake up call until a real Republican pol decides to man up and go after The Won.
Hopefully, The Donald will pick up on a few of these themes and run with it for a while.
The only reason Trump is anywhere on the radar is because he had the chutzpah to go after Obama. Hey Repubs, are you listening? If a leading Repub went after him like Jay Tea just did, he would see an immediate bump in the polls.

Remember how a President with class acts? Can you imagine Obama ever doing something like this? Hell, he's so busy blaming Bush for his own blatant incompetence, he'd call him into the White House for the unveiling and deliver a stump speech blaming Bush for everything from original sin to the holocaust:
(CBS/AP) President Bush offered a flattering tribute to former President Clinton on Monday as the White House unveiled the official portraits of the 42nd president and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Mr. Bush rode into office on a promise "to restore honor and dignity" to the White House after eight years of Mr. Clinton, and he was bitter at his predecessor defeating his father in the 1992 presidential contest. But on Monday, Mr. Bush delivered a lengthy, forceful defense of his predecessor, and welcomed dozens of Clinton administration officials back into the White House.
"As a candidate for any office, whether it be the state attorney general or the president, Bill Clinton showed incredible energy and great personal appeal," Mr. Bush said. "As chief executive, he showed a deep and far-ranging knowledge of public policy, a great compassion for people in need, and the forward-looking spirit that Americans like in a president."
Mr. Bush left Mr. Clinton laughing so hard that his face turned red with a jibe about Mr. Clinton's service in Texas to George McGovern's failed 1972 presidential campaign.
Mostly, though, Mr. Bush gave an almost nostalgic tribute to the Democratic former president.

When the press demands to know why the Republican was rude to the President, he should state that at the point when Mr. Obama started partisan campaigning to a captive audience, the President had left the room, figurately. Since the President had been replaced by Candidate Obama, the normal respect for the Office of President did not apply to the candidate.

Chico tells us the author is a conservative... well, maybe compared to his co-workers at the LA Times. His Bio:
New America Foundation... that bastion of conservative thought... far to the right of the Heritage Foundation :)

Woop
I dont know where you get that Gregory Rodriguez is a conservative. Writes for the LA Times, Senior Fellow of the New America foundation, and MSNBC political consultant.
Doesnt appear to be very conserative from what I could find on the web.
Lets look at one of his articles shall we
http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/opinion/la-oe-rodriguez29-2008sep29,0,3183903.column?track=rss
"Last week, John McCain's campaign resorted to yet another Republican attack on the media, this time the New York Times, for being "150% in the tank" for Barack Obama"
"I'm no defender of the New York Times. I often find its high-and-mighty tone pretentious and self-serving. But it worries me that Republicans have made it a primary tactic to respond to negative news with immediate media smears and charges of bias.
Conservatives may have a point that the traditional media are slanted to the left, but it is also clear that they aren't content with simple ideological balance. What they want, as we have seen, is their own biased media, in the form of Fox News and the Washington Times.
The upshot, ironically, is that conservatives -- those who generally embrace the idea of absolutes -- have put the final nail in the coffin of truth.
To be sure, the initial assault on truth began on the intellectual left in the 1960s. In academia, the old-fashioned idea that there were some things that we could all be certain of gave way to the postmodern worldview that held that truth does not really exist in any objective sense, but is instead created by each individual through the prism of his own background and biases. According to this new dictum, reality itself is fragmented and the search for commonly held truths is the province of fools, innocents and fundamentalists.
"
And from another column
"I'd love to hear what he'd say about Sarah Palin's flirtation with the Alaskan Independence Party and its disdain for the rest of the United States.

Well said, Mister Tea.
But didn't you miss, "Dumbshit?"
How else to describe a Representative of We, The People, who sits through the projectile spewings of a grinning basta*d who omly a few days before, in the worst act of evil ever perpetrated by any component part of any American government, had used his threat to cut off salaries and all material support to America's Armed Forces in harm's way and their families to blackmail and Boehner the House of Reps into the Three Hundred and Eighty Million Dollars of "cuts" they then all fraudulently and dishonestly conspired to call "cuts of Thirty-Eight Point Five Billion Dollars."
I hope before Ryan and The Reps' RINOs let that grinning monster Boehner us again - at Debt Limit time, f'rinstance, they all realise their jobs are on the line!
And America's survival.
And Judeo-Christian/Western/Human Civilization's.
