WaPo chronicles Obama's serial blundering over Gitmo
"The executive order promising to close Gitmo's detention facilities within a calendar year was never anything more than BHO-monogrammed bovine excrement so naïve and silly that it exploded violently on every contact with reality."
That's my 35-word précis of this 4300-word WaPo article entitled "Guantanamo Bay: Why Obama hasn't fulfilled his promise to close the facility."
Why yes, the naivete, the incompetence, the lack of concrete accomplishment, and the factual ignorance of the 0bama Administration are without precedent.

And when the Bush adminstration wanted to close GITMO you clowns felt the same way, right?
June 22, 2007
The administration is looking to resolve the issue swiftly, White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino told reporters Friday, although she said there's no deadline set.
"Everybody is working towards the goal to meet what the president has asked them to do, which is to do it as soon as possible," she said of shuttering the facility.
However, a scheduled high-level meeting Friday on the matter was canceled after AP reported on it and the White House said no decision is imminent.
"America does not have any intention of being the world's jailer," Perino said. She noted that the United States has announced plans to release about 80 of some 375 detainees, and hopes to transfer several dozen Afghans back to Afghanistan in the near future.
The Pentagon announced Friday that a new detainee had been transferred to the center, but added it was doing its best to reduce the population there, now at the lowest point in its five-year history.
Perino said Bush has directed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to work with her counterparts around the world to try to repatriate detainees to their home countries, make sure they are held safely and treated humanely and that they are not allowed to perpetrate acts of terrorism.

What struck me when reading that article was that not once (not once!) did they mention that opposition to the President's plans were driven by the fear that those released would go back to jihad and kill again. Not once did it mention that we already had hard evidence of this occurring even before 2009.
All opposition was presented as caving in to political opportunism and irrational bigotry on the part of everyone outside the administration.

Was Bush lying about closing GITMO? Of course he was - it was all a vacant campaign promise.

President Bush expressed a desire to do something in some unspecified future date. Part of this this desire was contingent on ruling by the Supreme court.
When that was allowed a secure court facility was built at Gitmo.
KSM and others were put on trail. KSM plead Guilty and was under going psychiatric evaluation. now that would have been 6 down several Hundred to go then the question is once everyone is tried where do you put them?
