This is simply fascinating and suggests that the reports of a video blackout are completely untrue:
A new picture emerged Thursday of what really happened the night the Navy SEALs swooped in on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan.
CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports the 40 minutes it took to kill bin Laden and scoop his archives into garbage bags were all recorded by tiny helmet cameras worn by each of the 25 SEALs.
Officials reviewing those videos are still reconstructing a more accurate version of what happened. We now know that the only firefight took place in the guest house, where one of bin Laden's couriers opened fire and was quickly gunned down. No one in the main building got off a shot or was even armed, although there were weapons nearby.
The SEALs first saw bin Laden when he came out on the third floor landing. They fired, but missed. He retreated to his bedroom, and the first SEAL through the door grabbed bin Laden's daughters and pulled them aside.
When the second SEAL entered, bin Laden's wife rushed forward at him -- or perhaps was pushed by bin Laden. The SEAL shoved her aside and shot bin Laden in the chest. A third seal shot him in the head.
This is sure to stir the pot all the more and the clamoring for the release of photos will now be replaced by those wanting to see the videos.

I'm wondering why they are talking at all. Oh we scooped up tons if information and telephone numbers says the White House". Of course they had cameras, but why tell the world?
These White House people are so stupid. Their only mission is to make Obama look like he is competent at playing President, so they blab, blab and blab some more.

Have to admit that they were probably talking about "live feed" video being blacked out...these helmet cams use recorders for later review.

I think they're lying about the live feed being blacked out. It's obvious now that there is something they don't want us to know about the raid. Probably something that would make them look really bad to their base. I think they may have put him on his knees and executed him. The photos may show evidence of that.

I believe the livefeed probably blacked out during the raid. It probably still was recorded at the originating end. If not the helmet cams will have enough. The problem is in relying on a politician to explain technology. They don't believe they need a 'blackout' to keep us from seeing any of it anyway. They probably should show the 40 minutes at an IMAX and use the profit to pay down the debt.

Rick, there is nothing in the article you cited that disproves a video blackout. Perhaps because the article said there was 40 minutes of video you concluded that there should only be 15 minutes (40 minutes to conduct the raid minus 25 minute blackout). If that was your assumption than please do the manly thing and post a correction. Leon Panetta, director of the CIA, only reported a 25 minute blackout in the transmission not the recording of the video.

The politically smart move would be not to release the videos yet, instead wait until an opportune time (either to bury some bad news, change the subject and or remind voters that Bin Laden was captured on his watch). For maximum impact make an announcement that in the coming days the videos will be released. Wait a week and release one short video clip. Announce that they are being reviewed so that nothing is shown that would give any strategic advantage to the enemy. Also announce that as each video clip is approved it will be imediately released to the public. Stagger this out for a few weeks by releasing one or two video clips a day;)

The Blackout makes sense.
Whenever you transmit information you can be dedicated. Not know what equipment was there you would not want to walk around with beacon saying here I AM. So I would think while doing the breach you just allow the recording to commence and not transmit the data.

If I had to guess, the picture looked like it may have been taken when the helicoptor went down. The transmission was down for only 25 minutes, not the entire time.
