... for this is sure to cause tics, strokes and heart attacks everywhere but the heartland:
Dick Cheney has finished his memoir, according to his daughter, and the book is scheduled to come out on Aug. 30.
Liz Cheney said that the former vice president's manuscript was turned in at the beginning of the month. She said the book, currently being edited, will be "very straightforward," with "a lot of in-depth analysis of really critically important issues." Cheney's memoir, "In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir," is being published by Threshold Editions, a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster run by Republican strategist and former Cheney aide Mary Matalin.
...
A favorite of the right, Cheney is widely regarded as among the most powerful and controversial of vice presidents and his book is the most anticipated vice presidential memoir in recent history. His daughter, who collaborated on the memoir, said in a recent interview with The Associated Press that "In My Time" will show his "sense of storytelling and sense of humor," but also that he has "very strong views and a very clear perspective."
I'm thinking it'll rocket to the top of best seller lists and remain there for a very long time.
You can bet'cher bippy I'll be gettin' a copy.

This entry assumes that coastal leftists have the requisite attention spans even to read a novel-length book, which in my experience is a false assumption.
That said, I'm very much looking forward to this item. Bush's "Decision Points" was in various respects fascinating but truth be told Dubya's writing style was very tame. Cheney, on the other hand, I strongly suspect, will proceed to knock it out of the park and in the process to tear a few new ones.

Now that I have gotten my token Dick Cheney book out of the way, I'm at least mildly interested in this. Particularly, I'd like to see how much he writes regarding the unitary executive, an idea popular with Republicans when Republicans are president and popular with Democrats when a Democrat is president.
The Bush administration put forward some strong ideas in this regard, particularly under the rubric of the president's commander-in-chief authority. I expect at least some of this originated with Cheney's office.

Some people think Cheney had a hand in the anthrax attacks of September 2001, to whip up grounds for war on Iraq on WMD fears.
One of the anthrax letters was sent to Leahy's office.
