Sheesh.
I figured Sarah Palin out years ago. The key to understanding her secret agenda is to realize she has no secret agenda. Her true reasons for doing things match up with her stated reasons.
Oh, she might have additional reasons, but her stated reason is always valid. It might not be the whole truth, but it is true.
Palin said she's going on a family vacation, taking a bus around some of the more interesting and historic parts of our nation. She's got her husband, parents, and at least one of her kids with her. They're doing a lot of the tourist things, seeing the landmarks -- the Declaration of Independence, the Liberty Bell, Donald Trump's hairpiece, the Statue of Liberty, the site of the Boston Tea Party -- and in general just having fun.
And a part of what Sarah Palin considers "fun" is making liberals and the media's (but I repeat myself) heads explode.
So she rents a bus for her and her family and security and whatnot -- no big deal. It's not that different from an RV. But she has it done up to look an awful lot like a political campaign bus. Nothing definitive, but leaning in that direction.
She hits places that have tremendous importance in the presidential election process -- New Hampshire (of course), Donald Trump's hairpiece, DC, and whatnot -- but also have great historic and touristy interest. She does so without notifying or coordinating the visits with local Republican officials -- what does that mean? Is she snubbing them? Is she saying she has no interest in running, or no interest in running with their support? What is she saying?
She refuses interviews with any media besides Fox, citing her contract as a contributor and commentator that gives Fox that veto power. Is she honoring her pledge, or hiding behind it? Is Fox protecting her from critics, or keeping their asset to themselves and preserving her value? Or doe she just not feel like getting into it while she's on vacation with her family?
The media complains that Palin, by not giving them her itinerary, is "putting them in danger" by forcing them to follow her around instead of setting up in advance where she's heading. But she didn't invite them along and has shown she's not that interested in having them along. The option that they could just ignore her, take her at her word that this is a family vacation, and let her go wherever she likes, whenever she likes -- like any other private citizen on vacation. But they can't. They just can't bring themselves to do that. It's literally unthinkable.
Palin has often been denounced as stupid, a dunce, far too much a simpleton to be able to stand her own against the sophisticated, intelligent, educated, intellectual elites of the media. But with this little trip, she's got them all falling over each other to dance to her little tune.
The only question is: why is she doing it? Is it to lay the groundwork for a presidential campaign? Is it to give her daughter, Piper (and the rest of us folks) a reminder of just how the media treats her? Is it just for her own amusement, to see how well she can make them dance?
I suspect it's a bit of all three, plus more I haven't even considered. But in the end, it's all a form of political masturbation by the commentati -- it's fun, it feels good, but in the end it's utterly meaningless.
Nothing wrong with it, but there's no call to make it more than it is. I know that, personally, I love seeing Palin living, rent-free, in liberals' heads and making them explode with the slightest efforts.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be in my bunk.

What's more fun is watching the rightards fawn over Sarah. 3 posts in a row at Wizbang rooting for Sarah Palin!
By not declaring she's in the race, Sarah doesn't have to speak out on the same issues being addressed by the other Republican candidates. Voters can't compare Sarah versus Pawlenty, Romney et al on issues like the economy, energy, etc.
Watching Sarah run from the press is amusing. Kinda like the way Trump ran like a little puppy once the going got tough and Obama released his birth certificate and proved Trump was a moron.
Sarah won't let it get to that point. She'll take your money then quit at the first sign of a problem, playing the victim to the hilt, no doubt. Ohhh, poor Sarah....
Send her a check, rubes. Show Sarah you care. She's sure to add you to her mailing list, and won't that be special!

I did a column of Chico a few weeks ago, and as he has no other reason to live than to lurk here and expose himself, so to speak, to the adults, this greatly improved his sense of purpose. Artless, being somewhat further down the troll devolutionary path, is envious and wants his own attention-fest. Being unable to understand Sarah Palin beyond his own very limited capacity, Art-fart assumes we are simply giving her props to which he feels at least equally entitled. Never mind that the inARTiculate son of a bad idea has never accomplished anything, and couldn't sell iced tea in the desert; he's convinced we owe him attention, even if it's to drive over him rhetorically with a didactic semi.

Like you, what I find so appealing about the Palin Phenomena is that she CAN cause the left to go batshit. She isn't playing by their rules - she's not making herself available to the media so they can do their usual 'impartial reporting' hatchet job on her. And she's getting well enough known so the standard tropes about her lack of intelligence aren't sticking - except among the stupidly credulous and the left. (Which aren't necessarily the same groups, though there's often considerable overlap...)
I like her ideas - but man, she's got a voice that could etch glass. And at that, I'll take her any day over a stuffed suit that gives great teleprompter but is otherwise ignorant and unwilling to learn.

The media could not leave well enough alone, when she became a private citizen. They had to send a stalker up to Wasilla to supposedly write a book about her. Research, the author said. If people believe that then I have a bridge in New York for sale.
