Oh This is Going to be Good

I don't harbor nearly the animosity for Charles Johnson that Jay Tea does... but I do admit I love me some schadenfreude when self-righteous liberal twits have their world tumble down.

Since I doubt many of you are regular readers of Johnson, take a little walk over to Little Green Footballs (no link from me) and see how incredibly hard Johnson has fallen all over himself to defend Weiner. He's not drinking the liberal Kool-Aid... He's filled a swimming pool with it and doing backstroke.

Knowing what a (ahem..) weiner Johnson can be, it's going to be great fun to see him fall.

Charles defended Obama on the Israel borders for days, saying it was no different than Bush or others - but I saw no media follow him on that. I guess he's out on his own entirely now?

Dammit. Now I want to do a piece on the "evolution" of CJ's defense of Weiner, but I gotta get to the day job -- and that'll give him plenty of time to delete the evidence, as is his wont.

Paul, you are TRULY an evil man.

I went over there today to play a respectful Devil's Advocate role on that threas (under "sharona", my moniker when I used to go there regularly after 9/11). It's become a truly ugly scene there, with Charles joining in the pile on that others heap, which he never used to do back in the day. I think I've come to realize that anti-GOP hatred (based in anger over their position on Climate Change) is just the latest in a long line of obsessions under which he suffers.

The Anthony Weiner Twitter affair has turned into comedy gold. The more explanation he gives, the deeper the hole. Even the Progressive media has thrown Weiner under the bus. However, one man in America still has faith in him. That man is Charles Johnson.

Charles does his Sherlock Holmes impression and came up with a theory that vindicates Anthony Weiner. He claims that obscure website, yfrog’s email features allow one to mimic another individual. He did tests “proving” his theory in defense of Weiner. So far, the media is ignoring Charles and Weiner will not deny these tweets were his actual pictures. This doesn’t matter, the Californian Kojak is convinced he has exonerated Anthony Weiner and has declared victory.

Charles Johnson once again plays the hero role. He’s trying to relive his Rathergate glory days by defending Anthony Weiner. This is a sign of his insanity. Madmen always think they are right and the whole world is wrong. That is what we are seeing here. Charles acts like he won some big victory. The truth is, this episode shows what an irrelevant and delusional fool he is.

Charles, your glory days are over. Your blogging career has gone the way of your music and programming careers. It’s a wrap Chuck, time to find a new gig and it sure isn’t being an online Kojak!

It's really kind of sad to go to that site. LGF used to be one of my favorite blogs until CJ went off the deep end. I recall that LGF was in the vanguard in the exposure of the falsified documents about Bush's national guard service. I can't imagine what it would take for me to desert my conservative ideals and fully embrace the liberal agenda.

I don't think Charles was ever 'conservative' - but he was usually pretty even on his coverage of issues. Rathergate pissed him off, primarily because it implied that EVERYONE who didn't agree with the provenance of the documents was just plain stupid. He could SEE the memo was a fraud, and they expected him to just swallow it down?

Now, however, he's just plain odd...

I think he took one too many headers off his bike, myself.

You seem to be confused. The whole point in refusing to link someone is that you don't want them to get the traffic. It is an attempt at an electronic shunning. When you tell people to go read his site, you are stepping on your own message.

Back In The Day, I used to read LFG every morning - and history must honestly recall that Charles Johnson was largely responsible for obliterating the Dan Rather / Martha Mapes document forgery that could have swung the 2004 election - but something went sadly wrong with Johnson's brain between then and now.

A cautionary tale; we're all just N brain cells from losing our minds.

Seriously, does anyone know what 180'd Charles?
It seemed like he was rational, logical and, at times, quite brilliant... Then, one day, it all just turned around.

Thought patterns don't change that rapidly and that radically overnight without some serious impetus. I was actually concerned for a short while that he had been compromised somehow, and was writing under duress... then I just decided he was doing it for some hippie chick.

It's the only explanation.

I too noticed the change about the same time that a couple of female commenters became ubiquitous over at LGF. They seemed to hold some rather strong opinions that were well to the left of Charles' usual commenters' views. And Johnson seemed to be associating very closely with these females, and he never disagreed with them.

This is only my speculation, but I think the answer to your question is:

Never underestimate the power of nookie to becloud a man's mind.

He's not drinking the liberal Kool-Aid... He's filled a swimming pool with it and doing backstroke.

I prefer James Lileks' immortal line:

I finally gave in to curiosity and took a look. Jebus! It's worse than I expected. The willful denials and absurd rationalizations were mind-boggling. It's like arguing with flat-earthers or 9/11 Troofers.

CJ saw a picture from a Tea Party event last year that included a Tennessee flag in the distance, and immediately decided it was a white-supremacist banner.

That wasn't the clincher as far as I was concerned, but it's the best example I know of.

CJ was NOT such a great fig... (Below threshold)
Jim Addison:

CJ was NOT such a great figure in Rathergate - that is a MYTH propagated by Johnson himself and his hatchlings.

His ONLY significant contribution was the animated GIF overlay of the CBS document and one created on MS Word, which demonstrated clearly even to Democrats and others of limited mental capacity that it was phony. That became iconic, and led tons of traffic to LGF - and deservedly so.

BUT the actual research on the font, letting, etc. had already been done - first by a poster at Free Republic, with follow-up by the Powerline gang and others - well before CJ jumped into it.

The guy was never all that in anything. He had his boost of fame and traffic, and could have built a decent and long-lasting web business. Instead, his psychotic narcissism and massive ego led him over the edge, and he drove away most of his loyal readers.

Now he stands as a stark warning of the dangers of long-term sniffing of your own bicycle seat.

I'd say he also performed a second service: LGF was a valuable clearinghouse that many people used to coordinate their inquiries and communicate their findings.

The ironic thing is that LGF is now the main site for desperate rationalizations regarding how Weiner might not have done it because of some esoteric and implausible sequence of events and coincidences, therefore it must have happened their way.

It reminds me of nothing so much as the defenders of Dan Rather claiming that since a typewriter with superscript capability existed in 1973, and another typewriter might have had a typeface that looked kinda like Times Roman, and another typpewriter was capable of proportional spacing, and since there were typewrters on base ... that the TANG memos had to be authentic and that Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian definitely typed them. Proof positive!
