Help Us Investigate the NY Times and Washington Post

Per the Grey Lady:

On Friday, the State of Alaska will release more than 24,000 of Sarah Palin's e-mails covering much of her tenure as governor of Alaska. Times reporters will be in Juneau, the state capital, to begin the process of reviewing the e-mails, which we will be posting on nytimes.com starting on Friday afternoon E.D.T.

That's bad enough. But now we see that both the Times and the Washington Post are trolling the fever swamps for people with no lives to divide up the 24,000 emails into digestable chucks so they can quickly let the juiciest tidbits rise to the top. Here's what the NY Times said:

We're asking readers to help us identify interesting and newsworthy e-mails, people and events that we may want to highlight. Interested users can fill out a simple form to describe the nature of the e-mail, and provide a name and e-mail address so we'll know who should get the credit. Join us here on Friday afternoon and into the weekend to participate.

Not to be outdone, the Post is also getting into the act. You have to first fill out a form to determine if you are sufficiently looney. If you past the global test they will let you be one of the 100 to participate:

We are limiting this to just 100 spots for people who will work collaboratively in small teams to surface the most important information from the e-mails. Participants can join from anywhere with a computer and an Internet connection. Read more about how it will work.

I highly recommend the comments in the Post story.

At the moment, Sarah Palin is not an elected official, she is not a declared candidate for any office, she is a private citizen.

So while the country is heading toward bankruptcy, we have the worst economy since the Great Depression, double digit unemployment, rising gasoline prices, and we have a President who has pulled us into two more wars without Congressional approval, what does the Fourth Estate see as a good use for its time? Digging for dirt on a private citizen instead of holding accountable the people who are currently in charge.

Art W, your hatred of Palin is clouding your judgement if you think that this is actually a good idea. This is a perfect example of Yellow Journalism.

Excellent point. It's like they just can't moveon from Sarah Palin. A congressman sending dirty pics of himself to women is a "distraction", but the e-mails of a former governor is worth calling in all the troops. It would make at least some sense if she was accused of some sort of wrongdoing (you know: like Bill Clinton?), but Palin hasn't done anything. My gosh, can you imagine what the dolts at Kos and DU will make of even the most innocuous e-mail?

We're getting real close to bankrupcy as a nation. Energy's becoming a real problem. We have 3, no, 4 wars going on. We have an immigration problem, we have the ATF supplying guns to Mexican cartels, California's about to go under financially. Worldwide, in the UK the peons are getting fed up with the costs, inefficiencies and insufficiencies of their single-payer health system (which was pushed as something Obamacare should emulate), Iran's working hard to come up with nukes, and Russia looks to be attempting a resurgence as a 1st World military power. (And we won't even talk about China's monderinzation.)

And you're cheering and applauding WaPo's and the NYT's decision to go after Sarah Palin.

Now, I want you to just take a moment and think really hard about what I'm about to say. Give it your full consideration, mull it over - and then think again...

Regardless of what we think about Palin, or Romney, or anyone else...

Do you (That's YOU - not your talking points, not all your memos, not the groupthink you've got to parrot so the others in your progressive playgroup will accept you) honestly think that Obama has (a) really been good for the country, (b) has anything resembling a clue about how to get the country going again, and (c) a clue about international relations?

That's a common thing with the left, it seems - you (generically) can't seem to comprehend that someone can look at the paper, go 'you know, I need more info than this', then research things and get much more info - then come to a completely different opinion than what the media was trying to force once all facts are integrated.

Because you'll pretty much never get the whole story from the media any more. I think you'd do yourself good to realize that, and research your sound bites accordingly.

It's truly mind-boggling how these newspapers are willing to go all out to pounce on every minute detail of Palin's life, committing enormous amounts of resources to even go so far as to sift through the garbage of a person who hasn't held public office in two years, but have displayed little curiosity about the president since the day he decided to run for that office. Often times, when something was shoved right in their faces about him, they immediately went into denial mode.
