Not stated quite that obviously, but just about. The relevant quotes:
“[I]t is absurd to me - the liberal media trope that has always been a myth that is leveled at someone and unfortunately a lot of people in the media will back away from being perceived as … there is no liberal media bias. There’s never been a liberal president. There’s never been a liberal machine in power, per se. And you’re quite right - anything that the right-wingers are doing, you will know what they are doing by what they accuse their opponent of doing.”
“You know, it’s … we’re ready, you know. Our children, you know, could care less about what we’re doing. We work hard to do that. Fortunately, we have help from the media. I have to say this: I’m very grateful for the support and kindness that we’ve gotten. People have respected their privacy and in that way, I think, you know, no matter what people may feel about my husband’s policies or what have you, they care about children and that’s been good to see.”
For the subtlety impaired, she means thanks for softballing every possible story the gaffetastic Obama family has done for the past few years

Garofolo is a total dumbass... (Below threshold)1. Posted by Mark W | June 25, 2011 8:38 PM | Score: 5 (5 votes cast)
Garofolo is a total dumbass. Of course she doesn't think the media is biased because they back up her leftist (dumbass) point of view.
The matter is really quite simple. We need a major survey done asking the public whether they think the media is biased.
If the media is unbiased:
The liberals will say it is biased toward the right,
The centrists will generally say it is about right,
and the conservatives will say it is biased toward the left.
If the media is biased toward the right:
The liberals will say it is biased toward the right,
The centrists will say it is biased toward the right,
and the conservatives will say it is generally about right.
However, since we all know the media is biased toward the left, the actual results will be:
The liberals will say it is about right,
The centrists will say it is biased toward the left,
and the conservatives will say it is biased toward the left.
Will somebody please fund this survey with a trustworthy polling firm?

I believe this comment from the first lady is only saying that the press has aided the first family in their quest to keep their kids from being affected. "We work hard to do that. Fortunately, we have help from the media. I have to say this: I’m very grateful for the support and kindness that we’ve gotten." The "help" from the media is pointing to they "work hard" to keep their kids from caring about what the grownups are doing. This is about the same "help" the media gave the Carter's, Clinton's, or the Bush twins. Maybe a better word is "sheltered". The media is "helping" the first family, sheltering the two kids from all the hoopla.
That's my reading on this one folks. Lets don't over reach on this one. The press has helped this president and his administration. Just like they under vetted Clinton, this guy was under vetted.
Now for that top part of this post. I don't care about anything that person says. She is irrelevant, period.

We should pay close attention to everything Garofalo says. She has a high school diploma, and even took some theater classes at the college level.
I read Michelle Obama's comment exactly the same as peter the bellhop. While the media is definitely been covering for Obama since early in his candidacy, she was thanking them for laying off the kids.
The kids deserve their privacy since they have no public role - although if they started giving Daddy policy advice a la Amy Carter, it could hardly be worse than his own choices have been.

Yeah, gotta go with #6. Garofolo is an idiot and nothing more than a left wing hack. I no fan of Obama, but I think the FL quote is a bit out of context. It reads to me that she is thanking the press for keeping her kids out of the spotlight--something I would agree with as a parent. You could argue they wouldn't do they same for a Republican President's kids, but it doesn't make keeping their young ones out of the glare less right.
I don't think it supports the case being made as much as you'd like.

That is probably a reasonable take on the thoughts of the FL. However, I must then ask why the press lays off of the kids of the president, yet goes after the kids of Sarah Palin? This is something that I would think that a minority such as the FL would address. After all, if they can do it to one of us, then they can do it to all of us.

Faith+1, we only have to look at the historical coverage of the past President's offspring by the media to see that MO's comment, truthful as it is, is a direct demonstration of their bias and perfidy.

“You know”, You know” I for one don’t give a hoot about the fact she talks like the typical street person instead of a supposed educated lawyer type. I’m more concerned about this! “Fortunately, we have help from the media. I have to say this: I’m very grateful for the support and kindness that we’ve gotten.” The fact that she openly confirms everything as to the main stream press is beyond comprehension. Are they now so secure in their thought of inherent right to their monarchy that they now throw the fact in our faces that there is in fact a co-opted press that they have paid for and own? Her contempt for us mere mortals is now complete to the point that she sticks it in our face that the propaganda industry will continue to lie and cover for her and her leftist husband?
I for one will agree with her on one thing as a parent. Leave the kids alone! However, I notice Her Royal Blindness couldn’t at least throw out a B.S. line of something to the effect of “maybe all children of politicians (on both sides of the aisle!) should be left alone”. No Sir! Not Queen Michelle or any leftist scumbag for that matter!
It must be nice to be able to not only have a propaganda industry that will protect you or yours while that same agency ruthlessly attacks anyone who, in a country that is supposed to at least respect opposite opinions, in fact stands up to the lies and hypocrisy. Of course, the families of good decent citizens can be attacked openly and is in fact condoned by this corrupt administration starting with the “we think we’re royalty so the rest of you be DAMNED!” first family!
Disgusting hypocrisy! Even more disgusting open disdain for the American people in general all on display! And they are proud of it!

Epador,
Not arguing that point. In fact, agree. which makes my point even stronger. Given all the available examples of media bias and preference for Obama why choose one statement where the FL saying she appreciates them laying off the kids? It's the weakest example of all to use and can only be really interpreted as "admission" with selective editing--which weakens the original author's entire point.
Consider my comment a critique on the author's style and technique of accomplishing what they set out to do--not a proclamation of the FL's comments to be truthful or not.
