Getting My House In Order

If we learned anything when we had the twins two and a half years ago it is that any project delayed until after the birth will inevitably never get done.

There's only twelve more days left until "newbie" is born and the very pregnant wife has been diligently arranging and procuring goods for the new nursery. The old one simply wouldn't do...

As her swollen ankles will attest, she's in no condition to do much physical work, but the sphere of her brain that controls planning and decorating is still working in hyperdrive. This makes for a busy spouse; which of course means me. I've learned one thing: unfinished furniture is NO BARGAIN. Of course if you can leave it unfinished it's a great deal, but somehow my new little boy will be emotionally scared if his dresser does shine in white. Coat #1 is drying as I write this.

I've still got to get this house (Wizbang) in order as well, then there's work, and invoices, and refinancing, etc. I'm making steady progress on all of those.

There is one last project that we've yet get to before our new boy arrives: A name. Why sweat the small stuff, right?

When you notice a massive upswing in your wife's hyperdrive, labor is imminent. Old wives' wisdom and all that, but if she starts insisting that you go to Home Depot to get some grout so she can re-do the tub, contractions will come less than 24 hours later. You can set your watch by that stuff!

Hey, we knew the kid was going to be a boy, and we still didn't decide on a name until after we got to the hospital! You've got *plenty* of time!

Oh yeah, that hyperdrive thing? My sister cleaned the tub mere hours before going into labor with her first. How she did it with her huge belly is a mystery because it's one of those tubs with a high wall that you have to climb a ladder to step over.

BTW- It is probably too late- but a tip on painting unfinished furniture.... Do not under any circumstance use a brush. Those painting pads suck for everything else but if you are painting furniture there is nothing better.

I make furniture when I am not obsessing over the news so I learned it the hard way.

Thanks Paul! 5 hours too late for the primer coat, but a trip to Home Depot is in order before the final coat.
