Virginia 8th Votes Anti-Semite On To Fall Ballot

There's no accounting for taste, or lack thereof...

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Rep. Jim Moran, D-8th, beat back an aggressive primary challenge Tuesday to win nomination to an eighth term, overcoming criticism that his comments opposing the Iraq war were tinged with anti-Semitism.

With 99 percent of the votes counted, Moran had 23,814 votes, or 59 percent, compared to 16,829 votes, or 41 percent, for Andrew Rosenberg.
Moran did not mention Rosenberg during a brief victory speech to about 200 supporters but said, "It's obviously disturbing to me that as many as 40 percent of alleged Democrats may have voted against me."

What's disturbing is that 59% of the alleged Democrats have such low standards that they could vote for a scumbag like Moran.

I will be extending the same offer of support to the Republican challenger Lisa Marie Cheney (I know what you're thinking, but there's no relation) this fall. There is one more chance to rid Congress of Jim Moran, vote Lisa Marie Cheney November 7.

Congratulation to Andy and his dedicated staff for a fine showing and softening up Moran.

Ah, the power of incumbency.

Maybe what he means by "alleged" Democrats is that you don't have to be a Dem. to vote in the primary for this district?

Anyhow it'll be interesting to see how he does in November; he's definitely weakened and it's possible that Bush will have to spend time and money in Va. -- good for Moran's opponent.

Moran behaved like an idiot... (Below threshold)

Moran behaved like an idiot again with his acceptence speech/election-night-comments and showed why he is an embarrasment to his District, when, instead of congratulating the Rosenberg campaign on a hard-fought battle, he gave that 41% of the voters a reason to not vote for him again in November. Jim Moran insulted what he called the "alleged Democrats" who voted for Rosenberg over him in Tuesday's Democratic primary and told reporters Rosenberg "shouldn't have been running." Moran also accused Rosenberg of seeking out Republican voters in the open primary. This is not exactly the type of thing you should do, if looking to unite voters.

My experience with many Virginians is that they aren't really very tolerant, especially intolerant of blacks, in my experience.

Voting Moran, who has a propensity for making anti-Semitic remarks, into office, is not surprising.

If there's more to huntin', fishin', and lynchin' in some of those Tidewater or Hill Country Rednecks, I have yet to be convinced.

This is not meant to impugn all Virginians, by any stretch.

I won't dispute the details of what you said, Paulie, but I will dispute the scope. While your description of Virginians may well be true in parts of the Commonwealth, the 8th Congressional District is neither Tidewater nor Hill Country.
