From The Folks Who Screwed Up Your Toilets...

Congress wants to regulate ceiling fans. I know that sounds like a joke, but I assure you it's not. Remember when they outlaw ceiling fans, only outlaws will have ceiling fans - just like high-flow toilets.

It's all those damn liberal... (Below threshold)

It's all those damn liberals controlling Congress, that's the problem. How could a ceiling fan or a ball bearing hurt anyone. Those damn trial lawyers are behind it all you know it, which is why we need tort reform to protect companies like this from lawsuits by greedy people.

They can have my ceiling fa... (Below threshold)

They can have my ceiling fan when they pry it from my comfortably cool, dead fingers.

Just Me:

I don't want the government anywhere near my ceiling fans.

But what I want most is the old shower heads back (although my dh I assume illegally alters them, by removing whatever gizmo is in that particular model to restrict the water flow).

I think Newt Gingrich should personally go over to Rep. Deal's house and slap him.

I live just across the rive... (Below threshold)

I live just across the river from Canada, and was going to comment on how the black market ceiling fan trade could join the black market toilet trade (they still sell the full size toilets), but instead I must say that I am amazed that a ceiling fan uses as much power as a window air conditioner. I never realized that. I sometimes have 4-ceiling fans going in my house at once. Guess I'll just run the A/C.

I might be missing something, but isn't the guy who proposed the amendment a Republican?

Damn you McGhee, stole my line (and your's is even better).

'Course I've got modified shitters at home - full size with this odd little 'bucket' in the middle that cause the toilet to flush only a little bit. I usually have to hit it 2 or 3 times to "clear the pool" so all water savings go down the.... uh, nevermind.

Was puzzling over this one to see if I could come up with a way my low-flo toilet could be used to help the effciency of my Hunter fan....nothing I came up with avoided the shit hitting the fan though...

The low-flow toilets don't work. Cause more trouble in resulting repairs than the old toilets did before they were removed.

TIME link doesn't work, either, much like the low-flow toilets.

Us poor consumers...all at the mercy of marketeers finding continued inroads to our money. I don't think it's gonna' stop anytime soon.

Sorry, rather, the TIME link DOES function as a link, but you arrive at a carefully restrictive website by TIME, preventing access to the actual linked content unless you (name the inconvenience here)...much as the entire low-flow toilet racket.

Ceiling fans should be outlawed.

Not improved. Not regulated. OUTLAWED.

Tim in PA:

I'm this close to ignoring these assholes' laws on important things such as firearms. Who the hell do they think they are kidding, thinking that I would obey dumbass ceiling fan laws?

"Liberal", "Conservative", doesn't matter. They all want to boss you around, the only difference is what they want to tell you to do.

Crap like this makes me want to go down to DC, drive around the Capitol and scream at random legislators while flipping them off.

I cracked the bowl of my toilet in the hall bathroom. I've had it held together with silicone for about three years now to avoid getting stuck buying one that doesn't flush well.

According to the article:</... (Below threshold)

According to the article:

"Todd Smith, a spokesman for Deal, said the congressman had been contacted by Home Depot and by several ceiling fan manufacturers seeking federal legislation that would preclude the states' actions."

So this REALLY is an attempt to ward off dumb-assery by various state legislatures. Such state actions would make it virtually impossible to sell ceiling fans in a nationwide market because each state would have different standards.

Don't blame Deal, blame the folks in your state capitols for this one.
