A rather odd coincidence

This morning, Lair Simon commented on the terrorist plot to blow up the Sears Tower, and asked if the attack had succeeded, what would then become the tallest building in the US?

Well, I'm a sucker for that kind of trivia, so I went digging -- and was surprised by the answer.

It seems that the current second-tallest building in the United States has already been hit by an airplane, and survived...

On the morning of September 11, after the first plane hit the World Trade Center (Bldg 2 I believe?) and before the second plane hit, Kirby Wilbur (our local talk show host) mentioned this hit. That the then-tallest building in New York had been hit because of visibility problems, etc. This wasn't the first time, IF it turned out to be an accident (no one knew anything at the time. It was even thought, very early on, that this was a commuter plane.)
