I Like The Sound Of This

The picture above is an old one, but one of my favorites and it just seemed fitting to go along with recent statements from Condi Rice regarding her trip to the Middle East this weekend.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice rejected the "false promise" of an immediate cease-fire in the spreading war between Israel and Hezbollah on Friday and said she would seek long-term peace during a trip to the Mideast beginning Sunday.

The top U.S. diplomat defended her decision not to meet with Hezbollah leaders or their Syrian backers during her visit.

"Syria knows what it needs to do, and Hezbollah is the source of the problem," Rice said as she previewed her trip, which begins with a stop in Israel.

Rice said the United States is committed to ending the bloodshed, but not before certain conditions are met. The Bush administration has said that Hezbollah must first turn over the two Israeli soldiers whose capture set off the 10-day-old violence, and stop firing missiles into Israel.

"We do seek an end to the current violence, we seek it urgently. We also seek to address the root causes of that violence," Rice said. "A cease-fire would be a false promise if it simply returns us to the status quo."

It's interesting that Secretary of State Rice is on her way to the Middle East in order to build an "umbrella" of nations that are serious about rooting out terrorism.

Neville Chamberlain was known to Britons by the humorous moniker "The Umbrella Man."

We can only hope that Secretary of State Rice will be much more successful in securing peace with her "umbrella."

Israel's war is the undercard. While Israel attacks her neighbors, the US gov't curbs our rights at home by caging peaceful protestors, stealing private lands, pressuring Amazon to drop the book "America Deceived" by E.A. Blayre III and illegally wire-tapping ALL PHONES. Soon, the US will invade Iran and turn the entire Middle East into chaos. Mix in another false-flag attack on US soil (like 9/11) and the masses will beg for One World Gov't.

With the domestic job approval rating for Republicans squarely in the crapper the administration needs every photo op they can find! This one is guaranteed to make idiots like Scrapironforbrains all teary-eyed. I bet he will wear out his Lee Greenwood tape this weekend....

Given that the best that the administration can do for Israel is stay the f*ck out of the way and not make matters worse, we're witnessing is the further marginalization of our country with regards to international affairs.

Maybe this is a "good thing" - being the earth's supercop isn't easy, but it does make you wonder who will fill the void. An alliance between Russia and China is my guess --at least until the Democrats can take control again and restore our country to its previous (pre-Bush) splendor and status in the international community.

Condi, SS boots and all, looks like a damn Madam from a freaking S&M dungeon. Period! I could care less if she were purple, red, or green. Geez!

What's my solution to saving lives? Hey, staying the f#@@k out of Iraq would have been a nice start. (Let's see, we are at about 60,000 and counting there)

You see genius, had we done that, -stayed out of Iraq- we would have been able to honestly go to Israel and say, I know these Hezbollah cats are a problem, and we are going to put pressure on Syria to rope them in. Of course, we can't put pressure on Syria now, because they see themselves as part of; what did frat boy call it? "The Axis of evil" So Syria says f#@% you, we are sending more money and weapons to Hezbollah, because we don't trust the west or the Israelis anymore. Oh, and while we are at it, we are going to form an alliance with those wack job clerics in Iran-that other part of the axis of evil- who contiune to send fighters and manpower to fight that other war. You remember tht one dont you? the one in Iraq? Which the last time I checked, is on the verge of a civil war.

Anyway, so I gues frat-boys strategy of not being a broker in this latest Mid East dust up, will save lives in the long run and really help us with the war on terror right genius? So lets hope Israel wipes out Hezbollah while we wait in the background, and take our own sweet time to go over there. -The boots must be holding girlfriend back- But if they dont, and Hezbollah comes out of this thing with their weapons and their pride in tact, you better watch out, cause it will only mean more terror for Israel and the U.S. in the long run.
But hey, I know you have all the faith in the world in frat-boy, and girlfriend in the boots. But given how they have already f#@%[email protected] up our Middle East policy with Iraq, it's hard to see how this can have a happy ending.

i disagree with what you say, because i disagree with your apparant base assumptions that human life is most important and that diplomacy should always be the only form of negotiation. that the status quo is a good.

to me human freedom is more important than human life. for what kind of life can you have if you are not free? i would posit that this is a fundamental American ideal based upon the declaration of independence, the american revolution, the us civil war. feel free to disagree.

there comes a time when diplomacy fails and the sword comes into play. it has always been so with mankind. unless they come up with a way to control thoughts, i suspect that it will always be so. man can be a stubborn, proud, greedy, and arrogant thing and that leads to conflict.

the status quo is never a good thing. by accepting what is, you fail to try to achieve what is better

specifically in regards to hezbollah, iran, and syria. we have never really been able to influence them greatly. partly because they see us their antisythsis(horrible spelling) and partly because they see the US as lacking fortitude and will. in either case, all we would be able to accomplish by telling Israel to back down is more deaths in Israel.

if you really want to save lives in the long run, you need to remove the organizations and ideologies that view the taking of lives as a good thing. and sometimes to do that, you need the sword

ke_future, I respect your p... (Below threshold)

ke_future, I respect your point about freedom being more important than human life, and if that's your postition, then so be it. The problem with that argument though, is that every country does not share the same type of democracy that we have. The person that posted above about Sadaam -Darleen- could not be more misguided about what was happening in that country. Sadaam is gone, but how many Iraqis are really safer? And yes their trains did run on time, and they had power, and food, and could walk out the door without being blown to smitherines by some wack job with a bomb strapped to his waist.
Hey, maybe sometimes it takes a dictator to hold certain types of countries together. -See Tito- It's not always our place to tell another country what type of government they should have. And another thing, having a so called freely elected government, will not always guarantee that we get the result we want. -See Hamas-

So Darleen, think about that the next time you go screaming for a war in some remote part of the world to feed your false sense of Patriotism.

What ke_future said about dying for a democracy and using the sword is interesting. I guess my problem is that most of the people advocating this position wouldn't know how to use the sword if you gave it to them. And the only thing they would die for; is their next big mac sandwich.

So, in your own words, *you* are allowed to take lives in order to impose *your* ideologies, but when other people are trying to impose their ideologies, they are terrorists, and you're not.

Note that I'm NOT justifying the blood sheed from Hezbolah nor from Israel. I'm just trying to make a point that your argument is fundamentally flawed.

It's ok by me If you think that way, but please bear in mind that by that definition, you are as "terrorist" as "they" (whoever "they" means) are.

Obviously, you don't known anyone from Baghdad. Unfortunately, for you, I do. The infrastructure was not maintained to allow for Saddam's palaces a la Louis XVI of France. Your statement is simply false based on five people who lived and grew up in that city. You make a bad habit of arguing your points by pulling "known facts" out of your butt.

Darleen is spelling it out for you with real facts and you come back with fabrication and bluster. Details are important, you racist dink. What gives with the racist moniker, white boy?

Oh, so you took a survey? How would you know this ascertion about cowardice amongst minimum wagers in the fastfood industry, white-boy? Made it up again, didn't you. Do you know how to use a sword? Do you know the difference between a .45 and a bee-bee gun? That's what I thought. Next.

tsp, and field-negro to som... (Below threshold)

tsp, and field-negro to some extent as well, the disconnect between what i think and the flaw you see is that i think you are applying moral equivalency.

let's see if i can explain this well. words, unfortunatley, are not my strong point.

i consider a terrorist one that kidnaps people, kills unsuspecting civilians, advocates genocide, and uses people as human shields, etc. (see al'quida, hezbollah, aryan nation, etc)

one who acts against such is not a terrorist.

i guess what i am saying is that not all ideologies are equivalent, and that we, as beings capable of thought and judgement should stand up to those who would do bad things. i accept that sometimes there will be those that think that i am the big bad. i may not agree with that assessment, but it will happen at some point.

field-negro, you are right, some who advocate a militant stance are indeed isolated from the brutal, bloody, unjust, and in some cases evil, consequences of such a stance. and some are not. in either case, you imply that only those that have seen the beast advocate for it. i find this position unconvincing.

I have tried telling you this before, but I will try it again. You should really study reading comprehension. You are making a fool of yourself on these posts.
