Major Jill Metzger Found Alive

She was found on the side of a road in the Kyrgyzstan capital with her head shaved:

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (AP) -- A U.S. Air Force officer who disappeared earlier this week in Kyrgyzstan was found alive and returned to the American air base in this Central Asian nation, a U.S. military official said early Saturday.

Maj. Jill Metzger was found by Kyrgyz law enforcement agents in Bishkek, the capital, where she had last been seen before vanishing during a shopping excursion Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the U.S. base at Bishkek's airport, Capt. Anna Carpenter, told The Associated Press.

Metzger was found on the side of the road with her head shaven, her father-in-law, Kelly Mayo, said in a telephone interview with the AP from Colorado Springs

"I know she's coherent, and whoever had her let her go," Mayo said. "We've got her back. Praise the Lord."

Mayo said the Air Force's Office of Special Investigations notified the family Friday afternoon but were given few details. He said his son, Air Force Capt. Joshua Mayo, was elated after being told about his wife.

"I can't even describe it. He's just beside himself, just unbelievable joy," Mayo said.

Carpenter declined to comment on Metzger's condition, which a U.S. military statement said will be determined by a medical team.

"We are elated to have Jill back with us," the statement quoted the base commander, Col. Scott Reese, as saying.

Kyrgyz authorities notified base officials at 1:15 a.m. local time Saturday of the news, the statement said. Kyrgyz officials were not immediately available for comment.

The AP report at Forbes offers a different account of how Major Metzger was found:

A U.S. Air Force officer who disappeared earlier this week in Kyrgyzstan was found alive late Friday, reportedly telling people who helped her that she had been kidnapped, Kyrgyz and U.S. officials said.

Maj. Jill Metzger, 33, was located by Kyrgyz law enforcement agents who informed authorities at the U.S. air base at the airport in Bishkek, the Central Asian nation's capital, base spokeswoman Capt. Anna Carpenter said.

Kyrgyz Deputy Interior Minister Omurbek Suvanaliyev said Metzger, 33, knocked on the door of a house on the outskirts of the capital shortly before midnight and told its residents that she had been kidnapped.

Metzger said she had been abducted by three young men and a woman in a minibus and held in a rural area 30 miles from Bishkek, Suvanaliyev told The Associated Press, citing local police in Kant, where he said she approached the first house she came to. He said she looked exhausted and her hair was dyed.

That account differed somewhat from one given by Metzger's father-in-law, Kelly Mayo, who said in a telephone interview with the AP from Colorado Springs, Colo., that Metzger was found on the side of the road with her head shaven.

Thank goodness she's alive, but the discrepancies in how she was found are a little odd.

Update: Greta is doing an update on Major Metzger. An Air Force colonel said she was found disoriented outside near a Kyrgyzstan police station. Her husband said she was in a lot of "distress" when she was brought back to the base and may be sedated.

TG she's alive.

I'd guess either the secret squirrels who abducted her got what they wanted and let her go, or the iron hand of the Kyrg. gov scared the white slavers/would be terrorists into letting her go.

Considering the country, any info coming from it will be suspect, wait to hear the AF version.

Idol Hanz:

It seems to me that what's being "tortured" here is the truth by the politically correct amongst us!

The media, especially the liberal media are running scared on this story. They want a Kelly Flynn or a Paula Coughlin to portray as the "VICTIM" of the mean white male dominated US Military establishment! What they have here is a perverted lying weak politically correct female USAF major with a bad drinking problem! No "Tail-hook" here folks, no white male to blame for "torture" or "sexual harrasment" Oh what for the PC losers and clowns to do this time around?

This "integrity first" USAF Major is probably already screaming "I'm a victim and I'm going on the Rosie O'Donnell The View TV program". She will end up collecting a big fat 100% disability for "PTSD" while the enlisted get a part of that for limbs blown off--they are languishing in the hospitals that "intregrity first" ms. PC Major stunk up along the way. Look for the PC infected cowardly Air Force brass to kowtow and cower in fear to Ms. PC Major's publicity threats.

Hey Major, before you write that book and go on the "Oprah" TV show, don't you think you owe the PEOPLE and the TAXPAYERS a little explanation of your escapades? After all, we are the ones that paid for your salary and investigation and tearful grand jury hearing.

The media may not want to "go there" but lots of people who know Ms. PC Major are calling and writing in with testimony.

More to follow and soon! Enjoy!

Hey Idol Hanz, rather that expending so much energy writing on blogs and forums to try to bring down ONE officer, JM, why don't use some of that energy and passion in a positive way to try to change unequal treatment of the enlisted?

Idol Hanz,

Are you unable to answer a question with a straight answer?

You seem to have alot of passion and energy (even if it is driven by anger and hatred), but why expend so much of it in blogs and forums? Are you actively involved in trying to affect change in world outside of cyberspace?

Oh, and let me get this straight. Because I don't speak badly of Jill, I must be "Jil". So how do I know that you're not one of Jill's abductors, since you are working diligently to persuade others to turn against her and turn the spotlight away from the abduction?

Deny, Deny, Deny, lie, lie,... (Below threshold)
Idol Hanz:

Deny, Deny, Deny, lie, lie, lie!

Gee, I thought this thread was about "Jil Metzger" and her "I was kidnapped and beaten" story!

Readers would appreciate if you would stay within the topic. Trying to change the subject isn't going to work. Attacking those who think Major Metzger is lying isn't going to work either.

The truth is going to come out and soon!

Well I guess my first quest... (Below threshold)

Well I guess my first question is answered.

Also, i wasn't attacked, I was being sincere, even especially with the second set of questions.

"Trying to change the subject isn't going to work"
Are you the one trying to change the subject? You TALK alot, but you don't DISCUSS much.

"Readers would appreciate if you would stay within the topic." First of all, you can't speak for all readers. Second, it's very narrow-minded to think that these topics are not related to any others. Third, you yourself have turned this into more than just JM and the abduction story, indicating that there's a larger problem at hand. Let me quote you from above "I don't think just "one officer" is involved in this, do you? Looks like there's lots of "big uns" to reel in!" And elsewhere you've turned the blogs about JM into your own opportunity to rant about the America, the government, the media, etc. So don't lecture me about staying on topic.

Frustrated in St. Louis:

Ok, I have to finally chime in on this thread, and as pretty a picture as DM wants to paint in regard to JM...DM, you're way off line.
I happen to be a military (Air Force) journalist and Public Affairs practitioner and with that position comes certain access. I'm not going to discuss the ins-and-outs of this, but the bottom line is that Jill Metzger will soon be held accountable for her actions.
She was not abducted ... period.
She lied to investigators and her chain of command...period.
The FBI is investigating this case because she, and she alone, caused an international incident that brought discredit to her country, her (our) branch of service and herself.
It will come out in the end just as Idol has stated. I'm more than sorry that we as a service have been unable to release to the American taxpayer the truth behind the lies, but at this time it's just not possible.
I appreciate the fact that you'd like to believe "your" service men and women wouldn't do something like this ... believe me, I don't believe it either. But the truth of the matter is she got in trouble and was so desperate that she didn't know of any other way out of a difficult situation.
Thanks for believing in the men and women serving this great country ... one bad apple is not an indicator of the rest of the bunch.

What picture have I painted of Jill?

Also, just to clarify by "Public Affairs practitioner" do you mean that you are an officer?

If you actually think I'm Jill, then your instincts aren't as good as you think they are. If it is your lame attempt to insult me - Not working.

Idol Hanz:

All--Did you read the latest Air Force times piece on Metzger? She has been PCA'd to the "manpower" shop of the base! I don't think that's a promotable position for a Major, do you?

Also, MilitaryCorruption.Com has a "Major" piece out on Jil Metzger that's extremely hard hitting and none too flattering!

MilitaryCorruption.com's ne... (Below threshold)

MilitaryCorruption.com's new piece on JM seems to have gotten much of it's "information" from the other wizbang thread on JM. Nothing new, and not surprisingly, it includes none of the positive things people have written about her.

By the way, does anyone know how to get in touch with militarycorruption.com besides their staff email address? They've attributed a quote to "Helen Shephard" in their first article on JM that does not belong to her (what they quote her as saying actually belongs to someone else). Though I've emailed them several times, they've yet to revise the article. So much for their pursuit of "the truth"!!

I have met Jill Metzger more then a few times, since she was working with my husband in Germany. She was engaged at the time and happy as she can be. She is NOT a runaaway wife, and didn't just take a break from her taxpayers paid job. If you think the details about her ordeal will be in the news, think again !
People who has very little knowledge about the military, -really- should stop speculating !
Jill is a sweatheart, we are all happy that she is alive !

Idol Hanz:

Please spare us this sugary disinformation. How many people do you think are going to buy it now?

Yeah right. Jil is sugar and spice and soooo nice! She's only single handedly destroyed a strategic relationship in the middle of a war and disgraced her nation! Things are not so good in Bishkek, or haven't you heard? Don't think the Metzger mess is part of the story there? You are naive and foolish!

Yeah, right. Jil's so sweet and her "story" is soooo believable. Tell us, foolish Silly Jilly Willy believer, when is Jil going to be invited to the White House to be awarded the Air Force Cross for bravery, gallantry and valor? After all, since her story is "true", then anything less would be a slap in the face to all that have served honorably. We would all be angry if she was slighted with anything less after being kidnapped by terrorists and then escaping. So when is she going to be meeting with Hillary, Nancy and Diane too? The feminazi brigade would go gonzo if one of their own is not fully and justly honored and recognized by the white male dominated military establishment. And where are they? If Jil's "story" were even slightly believable the feminazi brigade and their minions in the press would be on the march right now to cut off anybody's nanners who said otherwise!

You can't have it both ways. Either it's going to be our nations highest honors or it's going to be disgrace and dishonor. Jil herself made that choice in Kyrgyzstan, not you or I!

Your attempt to lend credibility to an obvious liar and scoundrel is beyond belief--no one is going to buy it and the writing is on the wall!

So tell us Jil (DM)...... (Below threshold)
Idol Hanz:

So tell us Jil (DM)...

When is Jil going back to her old job as Officer in Charge of her duty section? Why the PCA to the manpower office? This seems such a slap in the face to a real bona fide "hero"! Where is the feminazi brigade? Have Hillary, Nancy and Diane deserted her? Why?

When is she going to be nominated and awarded the Air Force Cross? Nothing less will do! After all, she was "kidnapped" by terrorists and then "escaped" single handedly!

Thank You FISL,Tha... (Below threshold)
Idol Hanz:

Thank You FISL,

Thank you for coming forward and confirming what we know to be true since numerous independent witnesses have authenticated it.

It's not an easy thing to do, but you have made the right choice since we all know where this is heading now.

If Major Metzger had really been kidnapped and then escaped, I would have lead the effort to make sure she received just as much if not more recognition then Captain Scott O'Grady, Col. Bud Day or Winston Churchill.

What I'm more curious about now is who may have tried to cover this ignoble story of dishonor up and if they will get away with obstruction of justice! I pray that they will not!
