Ohio Governor Speaks at CAIR Event

I lived in Ohio my entire life until my husband and I bought a business in Northern Michigan in January and moved there in March. Today I learned that my former governor, Democrat Ted Strickland, who was elected in November 2006, spoke at a CAIR banquet. The Ohio press doesn't think this is a big deal, so they aren't reporting it. The only place actually reporting it, aside from conservative blogs, is CAIR itself:

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland spoke last night at the tenth annual banquet of the Council on American-Islamic Relations chapter in that state (CAIR-OH).

Governor Strickland addressed the crowd of 350 people, saying: "On behalf of all Ohioans, [my wife and I] appreciate your vision to promote justice and mutual understanding. We gather under CAIR-Ohio's theme this year, 'American Muslims: Connecting and Sharing,' to do just that, to connect and share and get to know each other better."

Governor Strickland also expressed appreciation for "the Muslim traditions of strong family, hard work, and education," and presented a proclamation honoring CAIR-Ohio's work.

CAIR Chairman Dr. Parvez Ahmed and several prominent imams also spoke at the event. Imams, local elected officials, and members of the interfaith community were among those in attendance.

"Our speakers were truly inspirational and left the audience with a renewed sense of commitment and motivation," said CAIR-Ohio President Dr. Asma Mobin-Uddin. "We are grateful to have the support of the community and officials, and we will continue to work hard to participate in dialogue, improve understanding, and promote justice for all."

What's the significance of Governor Strickland's visit? Well, on June 4th CAIR was identified as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Hamas funding case.

Tom at BizzyBlog has more on why the press in Ohio is not interested in the story that their governor spoke at the banquet for a group that is associated with funding one of the most violent terrorist organizations that is now sending the Gaza Strip spiraling into even more violence and chaos.

James Cloninger:

Great--Ohio's Govs have gone from bad to worse. I'm surprised that the Dispatch had nothing to say, as it tends to lean to the right. The other papers, no surprise at the silence.

I guess the Ohio papers are too worried about someone smoking outside within 30.2938 m of a door to care about a little thing like this.

Betcha if it was Bob "Graft" Taft, we'd be hearing about it for two weeks.

Jo ~ I suspect it's the fumes coming off of Lake Erie. Sometimes they make people do funny things - for instance, elect Dennis Kucinich to office.
