Up Yours, Mo!

Thanks to Michelle Malkin, we have word of this report about a group of Muslim scholars who want to make an international law against Islamic blasphemy.

Whoops, that's a bit too on the nose. It would be "an international law that criminalizes religious insults and enforces mutual respect of religions." The fact that the only religion that's making international incidents out of religious "insults" is Islam is just a wild coincidence.

My first thought is "sure!" -- just long enough for some Jews to go after the Muslim broadcasters and imams and the like who proclaim that Jews are "the children of pigs and dogs." That would almost be entertaining enough to try.

But then reason take control, and I realize that this is nothing than a frontal assault on our right to free speech, cloaked in language designed to appeal to the left and its buzzwords of "respect" and 'tolerance."

Such a frontal attack deserves nothing less than a most forceful response.

I actually posted a comment on that article, but it is awaiting approval by the moderators. I don't expect it to ever see the light of day, despite the fact that it was very calm and reasoned and polite. Here it is, in its entirety:

I am not a Muslim.

I do not live in a Muslim country.

So why should I be bound by Muslim law?

Why should my non-Muslim government enforce Muslim laws on non-Muslims?

I find many things insulting to me on any given day.

I tend to ignore them, because I am a mature adult and have better things to do than go hunting for things to outrage me.

Why can't you folks do the same?

I simply don't care what others say about me or what I believe in. I know in my heart what is true, and the words of those who disagree and seek to discourage me are as nothing.

Is your faith so weak that even the tiniest slight from thousands of miles away demands you avenge it?

First up, this is a classic example of why "Muslim scholar" is an oxymoron. They are schooled in only one thing: Islam. More specifically, how to make Islam the dominant force in the world. They tried for centuries to do it by the sword, and that ran out of steam a while ago. Now they've made the realization that they can't do it by force (although I don't think that they've quite cottoned to the relevance that ALL their weapons are made by non-Muslim powers), so they're trying new tactics by looking for the weaknesses in our culture that they can exploit. They're trying it in Canada, as Ezra Levant can tell you.

In "The Godfather" (one of the most amazingly quotable movies of all time), Don Corleone advises his son that "a lawyer with a briefcase can steal more money than a hundred men with guns." In that vein, a jihadist lawyer with his briefcase can, in the long run, kill more than a hundred terrorists with bombs. (Confession time: this is not the first time I've adapted that quote to this situation.)

For the rest of my response, I'm going to continue below the fold.

Hey, Mohammed:

If this is true Islam, if this is a fair representation of The Religion Of Peace (tm), then fuck Islam and fuck everyone and anyone who pushes it. And if the United Nations even thinks about trying to pass this, then we need not only to bulldoze the whole building right into the East River, we need to think very strongly about invoking the Coulter Doctrine: "we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."

Do NOT make the mistake of dismissing this movement just because I've chosen to hang this piece on an article from a Yemeni newspaper. That's just the most recent face of the beast. The worldwide movement to make Islamic blasphemy a crime against anyone and everyone is a very real and very dangerous thing.

As noted, in Canada, they're getting the Human Rights Council (how disgustingly Orwellian a name that is) to do their dirty work.

In the United States, they have CAIR (unindicted co-conspirator for helping terrorists) and legions of others.

And around the world, they're using the threat of mob violence to get their way.

All in the name of "tolerance."

Here in the United States, we don't have laws governing blasphemy. That violates some of our most profound tenets, as spelled out in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution: freedom of speech and freedom of religion -- more specifically, the right to not only practice one's own religion, but to be free of others' religion (or religion entirely) if one so chooses.

I've asked this question before, and never gotten a satisfactory answer from any Muslim apologist:

Do I, as a non-Muslim, have the right to not be bound by Islamic laws?

That's not really fair. I've gotten my answer dozens of times, just never in words:

In most civilized religions, "blasphemy" is a serious matter -- among the faithful. It's grounds for excommmunication in most of them. (I'm no theologian, but it seems like a reasonable assumption.)

But in Islam, "blasphemy" covers everyone -- not just those who have pronounced their faith in Allah and recognize Mohammed as his prophet. They couch it in terms of "insulting Islam" and "fomenting religous hatred" and "defaming the Prophet,) but that's what it boils down to -- we non-Muslims have the effrontery of say that we are NOT Muslims, have NO desire to ever become Muslims, and wish to exercise our rights to celebrate and embrace and rejoice in our non-Muslim status whenever we wish.

Yes, I think we should all be respectful to each other. Yes, I think that deliberately choosing to insult others or their faith is rude. Yes, I think that so make blanket statements and judgments about whole groups of people is wrong.

But guess what? We have a right to be wrong. We have a right to do mean, spiteful, impolite things. It's called "freedom of choice." It's called "freedom of speech." It's called "freedom of expression." It's called "freedom of opinion." It's called "freedom of religion." It's called "freedom of association."

In brief, it's called "freedom."

And that one word is the one word that most infuriates and most terrifies these Muslims.

In the words of an almost-as-quotable movie as "The Godfather:"

Lick it up, baby. Lick. It. Up.

Well done and well said Jay. Excellent summation. We spend too much time trying to appease whacked out Islamists and not enough time leaning on the "moderates" who remain soooo silent.

Do I, as a non-Muslim, have the right to not be bound by Islamic laws?

During the Cartoon Rage of '07, I recall seeing a photo of a 'protester' carrying a sign that read 'Freedom of Expression is Western Tyranny'. So, the answer has been given in many forms. It is, as you stated, a resounding 'no'.

An earlier article in the same Yemeni paper outlines the progress of the trial of AQ terrorists. Notice who they let come and go "turn himself in" and then leave.

JT, words like yours aren't going to help.

I love that question. I've probably linked to your original post on that half a dozen times because I think it SO PERFECTLY frames the true debate.

It's the question everyone in the west should be asking, and the statement, "We have the right to not obey Islamic law." ought to be the subject of a massive marketing campaign. The future of western civilization hinges on whether the concept ever really takes off.

A while back I was speaking at a State University in Utah and made the statement that Mormonism was "the American Islam." I drew a comparison between the claims of Mohammed and Joseph Smith, the Koran and the Book of Mormon. During the Question and Answer time, I faced a number of very agitated Muslims. In fact, the Muslim interaction all but overshadowed the dialogue on Mormonism. The next day, I met with two Muslim leaders and began a series of contacts that forced me to take a deep look at its history, its tenets of belief and its comparisons to orthodox Christianity.

Today, there are over 7,000,000 Muslims in the United States alone. That's more than all the Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and Christian Scientists combined. An extremely militant proselytizing program is under way in many major cities and in every State university I have visited. The Muslims are going to make the Mormon missionary effort look pale in comparison. As orthodox Christians, we are going to have to be ready to deal with what I believe may be the most aggressive attack on Christianity in its history.

Let's take a look at the faith of Mohammed. When he was born in Mecca in 570 AD, the black Kaaba Stone was the religious center of all Arabia. In Mohammed's day, 365 idols were worshipped there, standing in the great courtyard. One of those deities was called Allah and was the god of the Quarish tribe, of which Mohammed was a member. When the Quarish tribe took control of Mecca, all the idols except Allah, the idol of their tribe, were destroyed.

The Koran Tells us that Mohammed drove the other idols away; his god was now the only god and he was its messenger. But he kept the Kaaba as a holy, sacred place and confirmed that the black stone had the power to take away man's sins. He obligated every believer to make a pilgrimage to the stone at least once in his lifetime. (Sura 22:26-37)

God: There is one true God, named Allah.

Angels: They are the servants of God, through whom he reveals his will. The greatest angel is Gabriel who appeared to Mohammed. Everyone has two "recording angels": one to record their good deeds, the other to record their bad deeds.

The Prophets: Allah has spoken through many prophets, but the final and greatest of these is Mohammed. Other prophets include Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus.

The Holy Books: The Koran or Quran is the holiest book of Islam, believed to be Allah's final revelation to man and it supersedes all previous revelations, including the Bible. It contains Allah's word as passed on orally to Mohammed by Gabriel. It contains 114 chapters or Suras. Muslims also recognize the Law of Moses, the Psalms and the gospels but consider them to be badly corrupted.

The Day of Judgment: A terrible day on which each person's good and bad deeds will be balanced to determine his fate.

The Decree of God: Allah ordains the fate of all. Muslims are fatalistic. "If Allah, wills it", is the comment of a devout Muslim on almost every situation or decision he faces.

Affirmation: "There is no God but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger" which is recited constantly by devout Muslims.

The Fast: Faithful Muslims fast from dawn to dusk every day during the ninth month of the Islamic calender, Ramadan, which is sacred.

Almsgiving: A worthy Muslim must give 2.5% of his income to the poor.

Prayer: Muslims are required to pray five times a day, kneeling and facing Mecca.

The Pilgrimage: Muslims are expected to journey to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.

Islam teaches that God is so far above man in every way that he is virtually unknowable. He will send individuals to Paradise or Hell as he chooses.

Islam teaches that Jesus was a messenger of God, not the son of God. Muslims deny the He is Almighty God come in the flesh. (John 1:1-14, I John 4:1,2). They deny that He is divine. (Col 2:9) They deny that He died on the Cross for our sins (Most believe the Judas died in his place). They deny that He rose from the dead. (Matt 26: 28, John 19:20) They deny that He is the final, conclusive revelation of God. (Heb. 1: 1-2)

Is this stone idol the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? Just because Mohammed said so doesn't make it so! Allah chose Hagar and her son, Ishmael for his covenant. The God of the Bible chose Abraham's other son, Isaac, as heir to His covenant. (Gen 21: 12, 22:2-18)

Allah is an impersonal being, impossible to approach or comprehend. The Bible's God befriends men like Abraham (Is. 41:8) and talks with them (Gen 18:23ff)! He loved us so much He sent His only begotten Son to die for us! (John 3:16)

Allah is a god of fear and terrorism that commands destruction upon those who refuse to convert to Islam. The Bible's God delights to show His boundless mercy. His gospel is the "Good News" of peace and forgiveness.

Allah requires total obedience to Islam and weighs the works of people. Allah and the Koran relegate Jesus to just the last prophet before Mohammed, below his authority. Jesus was not the Way, and could only point the way to Mohammed. The Bible's God can only be reached through Jesus Christ and trust in Him is the only way to Heaven. (John 14:6).

Allah required the works of Mohammed to complete his words of judgment to man. The God Of The Bible sent His son who did the finished work of grace for man. (John 19:30)

In the light of Allah's actual origin and his radical difference from the God of the Bible, we must conclude that Allah is not God. Nor is the name, Allah, a generic MidEast name for God, as even many Christians think. Allah is the name of a false god who can not save anyone from anything. Rather, through his false prophet, Mohammed, he continues to lead hundreds of millions into eternal darkness.
