Democrat Congressman admits that Dems "stretched the facts" about Iraq to win back Congress

I would normally say un-freakin-believable, but well... honestly, is anyone really surprised?

"I'll tell you my impression. We really in this last election, when I say we...the Democrats, I think pushed it as far as we can to the end of the fleet, didn't say it, but we implied it. That if we won the Congressional elections, we could stop the war. Now anybody was a good student of Government would know that wasn't true. But you know, the temptation to want to win back the Congress, we sort of stretched the facts...and people ate it up."

They needed to win back Congress, and they know better than us ignorant hicks anyways. So what does it matter if they "stretch the facts" to get what they want?

The man in the video, by the way, is Pennsylvania Congressman Paul Kanjorski. He's a career member of the Financial Services Committee who likes to generate lots of pork for his district.

I guess what Rep. Kanjorski is saying is that Dems had no intention of actually fighting to end the war, which I guess is a good thing. They just made a lot of empty promises and "stretched the facts" in order to dupe Americans into voting them into Congress. Once there, they could do all they wanted and start trying to inflict their socialist agenda onto us.

Surprised that they did this? Not really. Surprised that he said it in public? Hell yes.

Jeff Emanuel has more commentary.

Wow that is remarkable- an actual documented example of a Democrat telling the truth. I thought Fidel Castro was the only one who ever did that on occasion.

Surprised that he said it in public? No.

Surprised that someone posted a tape of this closed-door meeting on YouTube? Hell yes.

Wherever you are, whatever you say, if you are a public figure you should assume that you are being recorded and that those recordings will be posted on the Internet.

Heh. Another Sally Kern moment, this time courtesy of the Democrats. I wonder if Rosie O'Donnell will call Rep. Kanjorski and demand an apology.

I'm like you, Cassy. The reality is this is par for the course when it comes to the Democrats. To them the name of the game is say anything at anytime no matter how untrue in order to win. Power at any cost. That should be their slogan.

He's still lying. They could have done what they did with Vietnam: force an end to the war by ending the funding. What is true is that they weren't willing to pay the political price for actually wielding their power. I guess we should be thankful for their spinelessness.

Rep. Kanjorski:

Now anybody [who] was a good student of Government would know that wasn't true.

So in essence, he's admits not only that their strategy was to lie but that the reason the lie worked was the ignorance of voters. How nice.

Perhaps Congressman Kanjorski didn't believe it, but maybe that makes him the fool. Or was he ?

When the Democrats speak with "forked-tongue", it's really hard to know when to believe them. Never might be best.

The worst of all of this is that this video show that the Democrats used the war for partisan advantage. In the process, as a Harvard study showed, they needlessly endangered US troops by "giving aid and comfort to the enemy" in the form of "hope" that if they waited, the Democrats would give them victory.

This is shameful.

You folks are great. 7+ years of abysmal failure from the bush administration and you grab onto the thoughtless words of a nobody Dem? You all are too much. How do you balance your opinion of this current story with the 1000 or so lies told by your idiot boy-king? Do they balance out for you? Do they really? Geez, you all are losing what is left of your minds. Time to let the grown ups take over.

Fred, if Bush told so many lies, how is it that the Democrats can never actually find one? And why is it that to oppose Bush the supposed-liar, the Democrats had to tell so many themselves?

There are no grownups in the Democratic party, Fred, that's the point of this post - which you seem to have failed to read much less understand.

The last adult Democrat in the party was thrown out when the Democrats' loony wing pushed Lieberman into independant.

The accusation is supposed to be sufficient. There's no need for a listing, simply stating 'Bush lied' should shut off that train of thought.

But it does make you wonder - if reality is in the eye of the beholder, it's no wonder that some are looking at Bush as an 'idiot Boy-king' (and I do believe that Obama is considerably younger than Bush...) because that's what they've been TOLD to believe, either through general indoctrination (all my friends believe this, so it must be true) or being stupidly binary in a world where simple 'yes-no' answers aren't sufficient.

At any rate - the comments from those on the left don't seem designed to convince so much as to insult, to berate, to belittle. Shoring up their positions in their own minds, perhaps, when things they've ignored for years are leaking through like water percolating under a New Orleans dike?

Re the Democrats - I can understand the desire to win. I can even understand a desire to win at all costs. What I have a really hard time understanding is a desire to win that rips apart the system we're supposed to trust, and that makes the people you need to trust turn into blatantly untrustworthy liars.
