Obama Budget Passes Congress

Congress passed the President's 3.5 trillion dollar budget yesterday. No Republican voted for the measure but twenty House Democrats and two Democrat Senators voted against the legislation.

While Republicans have yet to articulate a coherent and effective message to their base it is marginally encouraging to note that House and Senate minority leaders are maintaining some discipline in the ranks by opposing these spending monstrosities. At some point the structural deficits in these budgets will inflate the U S economy in a manner unseen since the early 1970's. If fiscal sanity is to ever again find a place in the electoral dialogue Republicans must make certain voters believe that they will not make the same mistakes that cost them majority control in 2006.

Courtesy of Zero Hedge I offer the following recap of discussions that must be dominating the conference rooms of the Democrat Caucus:

Update: Well, I missed this:

Please pass Al Gore a Valium -- and better make it a double -- because his cap-and-trade dreams just took a dive in the U.S. Senate. In a vote late Wednesday, no fewer than 26 Democrats joined all 41 Republicans to insist that any new cap and tax on carbon energy would require at least 60 votes.

Though the press corps has barely noticed, this means that two of President Obama's most economically destructive priorities have taken major hits in the last two weeks. The cap-and-tax collapse follows Pennsylvania Republican Arlen Specter's decision to oppose Big Labor's attempt to eliminate secret ballots in union organizing elections. If Mr. Specter holds firm, and as swing state Democrats also look for cover, Republicans will be able to prevail on a filibuster.

It turns out there actually was a pony in that pile of manure.

Yes the video is exactly right, we have a giant "money hole" and the top of it rests on the wallets of our Congress.

Too bad half of the nation seems to think that that is where their money should go.

While Republicans have yet to articulate a coherent and effective message to their base

As I've been saying, unless they present a clear vision to the base, and do so quickly, the 2010 election is done for the Republicans. The GOP has a tremendous opportunity, but they're blowing it. 2010 may as well be next week.

"Republicans have yet to articulate a coherent and effective message to their base"

The democrats have just passed a budget that imposes an additional and new future tax burden upon our children and grandchildren of $6.5 trillion dollars.

As these are general fund deficits, that future tax time-bomb is likely to be paid by future income tax hikes.

According to the non-partisan, government Congressional Budget Office; $6.5 trillion of additional debt for the typical middle-class family means a middle-aged two-career couple in New York or California will get a future multi-year tax bill as big as their mortgage...$200,000+ for a family making $150k per year.

And that's before all the other increases like your utility bills tripling are imposed.

No, it's intentional.

They fully intend to engineer the collapse of America's economy. That is their goal.

It's called the Cloward-Piven strategy of Orchestrated Crises. It's real and the general strategy of leftists. Liberal 'useful idiots' are being used to implement it.

The video is hilarious the Onion never disappoints. But look this wasn't the final budget it was a budget resolution. The measure marked a total failure for bipartisan ship as this story suggests:http://www.newsy.com/videos/budget_battle/ It is easy for the GOP to attack the bill from the sidelines but unless they are willing to vote for the final budget they will not have any say over what that budget looks like.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...perhaps it is a duck?

But it's not the destruction of America which Obama seeks, it's the transformation of America that is his goal. That transformation requires the destruction of our economy (depression era dysfunction) in order to facilitate radical social change that would otherwise be unattainable.

In a democracy and for the average person, financial security sufficiently threatened, trumps esoteric freedom every time.

That transformation of America, if successful, will result in an America which older Americans will no longer recognize.

But it will be comfortable for most, as long as the 'freedom' of a cage is acceptable.

On the very bright side politically, the democrats and Barry own this debt outright. If no real return isn't seen in a few months, say good night. ww

Here's a very good article on hyper-inflation. You may wish to familiarize yourself with its content, since hyper-inflation is likely to become a reality. http://www.mises.org/story/3390

I also ran across this quote the other day in William L. Shirer's Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich:

"The government calmly goes on printing these scraps of paper [the Weimar Republic mark] because, if it stopped, that would be the end of the government. Because once the printing presses stopped - and that is the prerequisite for the stabilization of the mark - the swindle would at once be brought to light. Believe me, our misery will increase. The scoundrel will get by. The reason: because the State itself has become the biggest swindler and crook. A robbers' state! If the horrified people notice that they can starve on billions, they must arrive at this conclusion: we will no longer submit to a State which is built on the swindling idea of the majority. We want a dictatorship." --Adolph Hitler

Need I quote Santayana regarding history?

You see, Willie, it's not as easy as you think. I'm afraid the damage has already been done. Soon, Obama will be the least of our worries.

I sure hope I'm wrong.

The Republicans proposed a budget. It had dramatically lower spending and rolled back most of the stimulus bill that really was just a leftist wish list. Of course, the press just laughed at it. I am sorry to say no one will be lauhing when we have hyper inflation or even economic collapse. They have made many mistakes in the past and they are still not standing up and speaking loudly enough to stop the liberal's plunge into socialism but they are right that all this spending is going to ruin the economy.

As Geoffrey says in comment... (Below threshold)

As Geoffrey says in comment #6, the plan is to ruin the economy to set up a one world government and currency that whomever is pulling Obamas strings will run from old Europe.
