This and That

-- I thought Bush was supposed to be the embarrassing buffoon making America look bad on the world stage. Would anyone like to list all the embarrassments of the first few months of the O administration? I would, but I don't have that much time. Now we are dissing the Queen of England -- again. This time it is not by touching her or giving her an iPod filled with Obama speeches. I guess it isn't so bad -- the French dissed her, too.

-- In light of Bill O'Reilly's non-apology to Hot Air, Patterico decided to check out the meticulously monitored O'Reilly premium website. Look at what he found!

-- If you didn't catch my column yesterday at American Issues Project I hope you'll check it out. It is about potential fallout from the auto company bailout/takeover.

-- I watched The Goode Family last night and thought it was pretty good (no pun intended). Not as funny as King of the Hill, in my opinion, but worth watching if for no other reason than to see jokes made at the expense of liberals on network television. The show is the latest from Mike Judge, who created Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill. I have a feeling The Goode Family will get better and better as the characters are more fully developed. I am pulling hard for the show to succeed because it is such a rarity. If you have not watched it yet, give it a shot. There is a great writeup on the show at Big Hollywood.

-- As I just said, I liked The Goode Family. It had some really great moments. But I loved the show that came on following it -- Surviving Suburbia. It was non-stop funny from start to finish. Bob Saget stars in the sitcom. That's the Bob Saget of stand up comedy, not the Bob Saget who played Dad in Full House. Yes they are the same person, technically, but anyone who has seen Bob Saget's stand up knows it is not content appropriate for the Full House audience. Surviving Suburbia features Saget's irreverent humor minus, of course, the language that would never have passed the network censors. I recommend taking 60 minutes next week to check both shows out if you have not already.

-- One last item, from Brutally Honest, inspired by the spelling bee. This one could be fun.

"I guess it isn't so bad -- the French dissed her, too."

One expects the French to diss the Brits. And vice-versa There's a long history of animosity there. One of my favorite things I heard an Englishman say about the French, "People think we hate the French. It's not true. I like the French. I just can't eat a whole one."

As much as I chortle at Oba... (Below threshold)

As much as I chortle at Obama's stumbles, I am not sure how we hang this one on him.

The French are hosting the event. They claim the British determined who would lead their delegation.

I know Obama likes to think that he has total control; but I really don't think that is the case here. It is possible that the Os could have put in a word for the Queen, but then folks would claim he was trying to run the show.

Let's save our scorn for those instances when it is clearly deserved. There are plenty of them.
