Taliban suicide bomber targets nuclear base in Pakistan

A suicide bomber killed 8 and wounded 15 in an attack on an air base in Pakistan. The air base is suspected to be part of Pakistan's nuclear program.

Officials were quick to deny that the facility, the major research centre for the air force, had links to the nuclear programme. However, Pakistan doesn't specify which sites are involved in the programme and many independent experts believe that Kamra is a nuclear air base.
Details of the attack are still sparse. The U.S. media doesn't seem to consider this news. The above link is for the telegraph in the UK. Hot air links to a McClatchy which has a few more details. The good news, if there is any in this, is that the bomber was detected at a security checkpoint.
A suicide attacker struck a checkpoint Friday morning on the boundary of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, an air force base at Kamra, about 40 miles outside Islamabad, killing eight people, including two security personnel, and wounding 15.

"There were strict security arrangements, so he (the bomber) was intercepted at the first checkpost," local Police Chief Fakhar Sultan said.

While the loss of life is of course regrettable, it is at least a positive sign that decent security measure are in place.

I'm still a little baffled as to why none of the U.S. media outlets have picked up the story. The only U.S based story I could find on the event using Google News was a Miami Herald posting of the World AP feed.

What exactly is CNN.com pushing instead? Let's take a look. Ahh, I see. One of the top front page articles covers the release of a photo of the first family by the White House. A prime example of the breaking news I expect to find at CNN.
