Al Gore, Carbon Billionaire

In past arguments, er discussions, I've had concerning bias in global warming research and reporting, I've tried to explain just how much money there is to be made in the green industry. Al Gore is apparently the number one of example. (Hat tip: Instapundit.)

Critics, mostly on the political right and among global warming skeptics, say Mr. Gore is poised to become the world's first "carbon billionaire," profiteering from government policies he supports that would direct billions of dollars to the business ventures he has invested in.

Representative Marsha Blackburn, Republican of Tennessee, asserted at a hearing this year that Mr. Gore stood to benefit personally from the energy and climate policies he was urging Congress to adopt.

Mr. Gore is unapologetic.
Mr. Gore says that he is simply putting his money where his mouth is.

"Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country?" Mr. Gore said. "I am proud of it. I am proud of it."

(I'm sure he would say that repeating himself is an indication of his passion, not his guilt.) Just because there is money to be made by pushing global warming doesn't disprove it of course. It should just raise your suspicions. If Phillip Morris pushed science that suggested smoking was the path the a healthy mind and body, I think most people would be skeptical.

Note the the New York Times does its best to diffuse the issue, running with the headline "Gore's Dual Role in Spotlight: Advocate and Investor". A close second choice (as I submitted to FARK.com) was probably "Al Gore now eligible for Nobel prize in economics."

This subject first gained widespread blog attention back in April:

In any other industry this would be considered a severe conflict of interest. In essence, Al Gore has helped to create a fictitious catastrophe, then told everybody what the solutions have to be, and then put himself in a position to capitalize on the hype. It's not only seriously dishonest, but many people and industries are going to suffer in the wake of this hype while Gore and Big Green bring in millions (and in some cases, billions) of dollars in green money.

Nice to see that the NYT is only six months behind bloggers on this story. Just reporting it is probably a giant step for them.

Al Gore - sleazy huckster warning us about the horrible, terrible, just-plain-no-good eEvills of Global Warming.

Hurricanes! Typhoons! Earthquakes! Melting Glaciers! Burning oceans! Drowning polar bears! Polar Toppling! Dogs and cats living together! Oh, teh HORRORS! He says we must do whats we cans to STOPS it now! Al Gore says we must stops the Carbon, or buy indulgences to atone for teh sin of technolology and electricty, and flying, and driving, and... and... hell, just plain living in a society advanced beyond a hunter-gatherer stage.

And isn't it convenient that he just HAPPENED to come along at the right time with the right business interests to promote a 'cure' for the 'problem' he was pushing... which incidentally would make him richer than hell, while requiring the rest of us to cut back and do without - which is something Al Gore is very visibly NOT doing, with his huge mansion and jetting all over the place?

Yeah, what's wrong with this picture?

Algore first made money growing and selling tobacco. He then demonized tobacco to make much more. He has also sold influence as a US Senator. Now he is making more than ever selling carbon credits. I fully expect he'll eventually start selling actual carbon to be placed into the atmosphere when we undergo a period of rapid planetary cooling. The man has never made an honest $. My only hope is that he finally gets what is rightfully coming to him.

But the beautiful, gracious, delectable and altogether delightful (and so far I'm only discussing her intellect, her graciousness, her humility and her impeccable Good manners) Miss Ann Coulter, already has America's (il)liberals tits in terrible tangles for having used the Gore definition in the same sentence as "John Edwards." Oh, and as for "global warming", you'll now note that it's CLIMATE CHANGE. Well the climate has been CHANGING since day 1 on this planet. You can find the fossilized remains of crocodiles in the Sahara Desert. Personally, I think it's the height of human conceit that we can STOP climate change. Once people realize that, I wonder what new phrase The Goracle will coin.

Mac Lorry:

One thing that's true is that Al Gore invented a new way of converting carbon into diamond, at lest from a monetary perspective. Al Gore makes Bernie Madoff look like a smalltime lunch money thief by comparison, as Al has shown big business there's money to be made in the climate scam bandwagon. What they don't see is the cliff mother nature put in the path of their bandwagon. The sign on it's rim reads... "Global cooling brought to you by a calm sun."

How is Al Gore any worse than that?

Because the companies WANT their businesses to continue. Without a customer base, they can't sell their products.

Gore's selling Global Warming - which may or may not exist but for which all the proposed remedies will be friggin' catastrophic for the world economy. And his 'carbon credits' are about on the equivalent of the 'indulgences' for sin the Catholic Church used to sell in the 15th Century.

Better buy some now - gotta keep Al Gore's wallet full - that mansion of his won't heat itself!

Al Gore did not spend the last 8 years educating the world about global warming as some sort of convoluted, unnecessarily arduous strategy to make more money through Kleiner Perkins - that would be ludicrous. And understand that Global Warming is not a part of some vast, enviro-fascist conspiracy propounded by an international cabal of greedy meteorologists, marine biologists, and wildlife refuge caretakers.
