Al Qaeda's Submarines

Al Qaeda has access to drug smuggling submarines bound for the US. From Reuters:

Colombian guerrillas have entered into "an unholy alliance" with Islamic extremists who are helping the Marxist rebels smuggle cocaine through Africa on its way to European consumers, a U.S. official told Reuters.

Interdiction efforts have made it more difficult to send cocaine straight from Colombia and other Andean producer nations to the United States and Europe.

So criminal organizations including the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, are going through Africa to access the European market. And they are doing it with the help of al Qaeda and other groups branded terrorists by Washington, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
To reach the U.S. market, Colombian smugglers are meanwhile being driven to use disposable, fiberglass submarines. The homemade craft are constructed in the mangroves of Colombia's Pacific coast, used to carry drugs to Mexico for transshipment to the United States, then sunk.

Sure these submarines are used to transport drugs, but does anyone doubt that Al Qaeda hasn't thought about using them to smuggle operatives into the US? Armed with Anthrax/PETN/You Name It??

Think this is far fetched? Consider this recent post by Walid Phares, and then reconsider:

In 2002, one would-be shoe bomber forced millions of travelers to take off their shoes. In 1996, terrorists planned to bring down aircraft on transatlantic flights by smuggling liquid explosives onto plane. They were thwarted but they succeeded in preventing passengers from bringing liquids into airline terminals.

Lesson number one: In this terror war, the jihadists have the upper hand. THEY are in charge. THEY are the ones who choose to use a new weapon and they are also the ones who - by using simple logic -- have refrained from using the same terror weapons more than once. In fact, since September 2001, Al Qaeda's henchmen have avoided rushing into the cockpit of an airliner with box cutters. Does this mean we were successful in deterring the terrorists? Of course: as long as we can prevent them from using the 9/11 methods, they won't be naïve enough or foolish enough to repeat the same strategy. So are we winning the fight with Al Qaeda by using these measures? No, we are simply protecting our population until we win the war. But winning is not measured by surviving potential copycat attacks.

Perhaps Lord Obama can negotiate with alQueda and get them to guarantee they'll only use the submarines for importing drugs?

Oh, c'mon.

Al-Qaeda, being fundamentalist Muslims, opposes drug use. Therefore, they would never, ever, EVER cooperate with drug runners.

Only someone who could imagine Osama bin Laden cooperating with a secular dictator, or a Nazi cooperating with a Communist, could believe that!

AQ isn't rushing cockpits because they know what the passengers will do. And it's not 'sit quietly in their seats with their hands in their laps. Face it, until we start focusing on PEOPLE, the shitheads will continue to try to smuggle something onto aircraft. Either people vote with their feet and refuse to fly until the government cleans up it's act.

As for the drug smugglers, maybe we should just start killing them, rather than trying to capture them. Fire a warning shot. They don't stop. Kill 'em.

I wouldn't get in the ones that they've used so far. Scary. When they start using Type 209's, Kilo's or some other modern diesel sub, I'll take notice. Come to think of it, Kilo is perfectly named for drug dealers!

Oh, puh-leeeze!

The CIA has been in the drug-running business since (at least!)the mafia deal with Vito Genovese and the invasion of Sicily, 1943.

else: From Batista's second "presidency"(1952-1959) over Cuba (aka. Kingdom of Havana) in which cocaine was vouchsafed for Island American high rollers while Heroin was passed on to USA ghettos. (No wonder black Jazz went to shit during this time, and lost the "pop" vote to Henry Mancini and Nelson Riddle!)

Iranian-French connection, in both instances, and American-built.

It's Anglo-Saxon opportunism. And please bite back thine bile: Two (count'em TWO (2)) "Opium Wars" betwixt Queen Victoria and the Chinese People. The British assuming the PRO position BTW.

When even terrorists can meet for the first time and successfully negotiate ground-breaking agreements with each other, there may very well be hope for the rest of the world.

Appears these subs have been around for a few years - there was an article about them in Speigel in June 2008 (I am too lazy to leave the link so ye that don't know how to Google are stuck). They look like small fishing boats that have been modified to allow a very low profile - they are really semi-submersible.

Anyway, they can hold up to 10 tons of coke each. Hope they don't switch to the REAL THING.

Gee. That's a surprise. The Chick tracts would have been be more reputable.

I thought the politicians here in MA were on FARC's email. Didn't McGovern's name show up on one of their confiscated computers? And didn't it show that he is a true sympathizer and enabler of FARC? Perhaps McGovern could counsel obama on how to make friends with this group?

THe real danger to those subs (or semi-submersibles) being used to smuggle drugs isn't smuggling operatives into the U.S. The danger lies in the possibility in them being loaded with explosives, run along side a cruise ship, oil tanker, bulk fuel carrier etc and being detonated. With a ship blown in the right place and time it would be possible to at least close an important harbor for days. Blow the right ship up at the right place and time and you could get an effect greater than that of 9/11.

A self-professed medical man-wo like yourself should henceforth know that Spiegel means Mirror and is pronounced "speegel", thus REQUIRING, auf Deutsch, the E FOLLOW the I.

YOUR phonetical contabulation (Speigel) is sounded "SPYGEL" which means nothing that I'm aware of (though my German is poor, but not epador poor).

And Hitler's only dangerous foes at first were the Communists, and JFK assasination facts were exposed by left-wing Jews like Lane and Epstein and the editors of Ramparts.
The Rights of Man and the Declaration of Independence were written by Enemies of the freest nation in Europe at the time, and one with an unwritten constitution based on Common Law and Magna Carta which uniquely foreswore torture not involving cases of lese majestes (sp).

Anyway, the true value of the Cerules book is the clear lines drawn connection the US overworld (including the military) to the international underworld in a vortex over Cuba and Florida (CIA's operational base, see Univ. of Miami, etc).

Reminder: it wasn't Castro who planned to bomb American cities. It was the US government in a DESPERATE attempt to recapture Cuba, who dreamt of such false flag operations. This was age of Operation Northwoods (google).

Anyway. I recommend the Cerules book highly. It's probably in your nearest larger local communist library down the street.
