Does Joe The Plumber Have A Sister Named Doris?

This story should be on the front page. Oh, wait, it is. The Washington Post reports on a phenomenon well recognized by President Obama's critics...the filibuster answer. While this tactic worked to a limited extent during the famous Health Care Summit it must be remembered that the adversary there was a Republican caucus. But subjecting voters (particularly townhall types that are usually vetted) to this sort of torture by filibuster?

CHARLOTTE - Even by President Obama's loquacious standards, an answer he gave here on health care Friday was a doozy.

Toward the end of a question-and-answer session with workers at an advanced battery technology manufacturer, a woman named Doris stood to ask the president whether it was a "wise decision to add more taxes to us with the health care" package.

"We are over-taxed as it is," Doris said bluntly.

Obama started out feisty. "Well, let's talk about that, because this is an area where there's been just a whole lot of misinformation, and I'm going to have to work hard over the next several months to clean up a lot of the misapprehensions that people have," the president said.

He then spent the next 17 minutes and 12 seconds lulling the crowd into a daze.

His discursive answer - more than 2,500 words long -- wandered from topic to topic, including commentary on the deficit, pay-as-you-go rules passed by Congress, Congressional Budget Office reports on Medicare waste, COBRA coverage, the Recovery Act and Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (he referred to this last item by its inside-the-Beltway name, "F-Map"). He talked about the notion of eliminating foreign aid (not worth it, he said). He invoked Warren Buffett, earmarks and the payroll tax that funds Medicare (referring to it, in fluent Washington lingo, as "FICA").

Don't you love Doris' point that we are over taxed (how did she get in the room)? Sensing a "Joe The Plumber moment" the President's brain must have immediately flashed warnings, wherein the synapse fired back the automatic response:

"Well, let's talk about that, because this is an area where there's been just a whole lot of misinformation......

Seventeen minutes later nothing was settled, nothing made clearer and everyone was searching for Gilligan or the Capitan to tell The Professor to shut up. This is what it has come to.

Note: epador asks if this is on tape. Here is the youtube link but it is an hour long (surprised?). Maybe someone with more geekfu can create a link to the Doris segment.

The only thing that keeps me from hating Barack Obama is the knowledge that when he falls and takes the rest of the Democrats with him, I will just love him to pieces.

From Reuters:
"The U.S. economy is on the path to achieving self-sustaining growth, although the jobs outlook remains uncertain", White House economic adviser Larry Summers said in a newspaper interview to be published on Saturday. "I think the economy appears to be moving toward escape velocity,"

So the fact that 8 million formerly employed citizens are still unemployed means "the economy is on the path to achieving self-sustaining growth".

"How does that work?"

Corporate productivity usually recovers long before jobs do. Last time we had unemployment this high it took nearly a decade for the jobs to recover.

It works by adjusting to the fact that 8M people will continue to be unemployed far into the future. It works because Obama like all dems is not concerned about individuals (beyond using them as anecdotes or his propaganda) he only cares about the aggregate. The individual is alive for the purpose of sacrifice for the greater good of society.

That's why Obama throws people under the bus so easily. People exist to be used and discarded. Once they have served his purpose he has no problem with throwing them away. If he doesn't mind throwing his mentor of 20 years under the bus what makes you think he will give a second thought to 8M unemployed? They missed out. Obama doesn't think it matters if the rest of the economy is making him look better.

The reality is that for the electorate jobs do matter. The stock market can turn around and provide Barry with some good headlines on CNN and MSNBC, but for the rest of us it doesn't matter what the market does if we don't have a job to pay our mortgage and put food on the table.

The video is here. The Doris section begins at 35.53, where the President says, "I think I should - let's see - I want to make sure that - I've gotta get a woman in here, make sure this it's balanced. All right, this young lady right here."

The President, in his answer to Doris, makes four points:
1) We have a moral imperative to provide health care to all our citizens.
2) You could be personally impacted by the loss of insurance coverage if you lose your job.
3) The current situation with insurance is unreliable. Even if you have insurance, your particular problem might not be covered or you might bump up against a lifetime maximum.
4) The current path of increasing healthcare costs was unsustainable.

Then he goes into a litany of the things that the bill supposedly does for you.
