Obama's Mouth: A Gushing Catastrophe

Obama has gone on record in a Politico interview, stating that the Gulf oil catastrophe is comparable to 9/11.

From Politico.com:

"Sounding reflective as he heads into a bruising electoral season, President Barack Obama told POLITICO columnist Roger Simon that the Gulf disaster "echoes 9/11" because it will change the nation's psyche for years to come.

Obama -- facing mounting criticism of his handling of the BP gusher, even from longtime allies -- vowed to make a "bold" push for a new energy law even as the calamity continues to unfold. And he said he will use the rest of his presidency to try to put the United States on a course toward a "new way of doing business when it comes to energy."

"In the same way that our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy was shaped profoundly by 9/11," the president said in an Oval Office interview on Friday, "I think this disaster is going to shape how we think about the environment and energy for many years to come."

At least in his attempt to rally a nation behind this tragedy, yes.

How anyone, for whatever reason, would compare the murder of 3,000 people, perpetrated by insane muslim fanatics flying planes into buildings on our soil, is in anyway comparable to an explosion of an off-shore oil rig is about as dumb and insensitive as you can get, no matter what his intention.

And though that intention seems to be to point out the systemic failures that we see in hindsight regarding the events leading up to both events, the reasons and facts behind both have one over-riding theme in common: The fault belongs to democrats.

Regarding 9/11, chances are it may never have happened but for regulations and rules put in place by democrats over at least a decade. Jamie Gorelick's "wall of secrecy" built between our intelligence agencies made it impossible for the CIA and FBI to share information on terrorist threats: Democratic President Bill Clinton refused the offer from the Sudanese to turn Osama bin Laden over to the U.S. out of fear Muslim nations would get their feelings hurt: Allowing visa's to be given to those from known state sponsors of terror: Ignoring the findings of the U.S. anti-terror group Able Danger: Tepid, and in some cases, non-existent reaction to the terrorist strikes involving the first WTC bombing, the USS Cole, and the U.S. Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

Regarding the oil spill, regulations and rules were bypassed by democrats, specifically involving BP and the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. Obama was the largest recipient of campaign money doled out by BP in the past 20 years: The Minerals Management Service, under the auspices of Obama's Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, was a mess, rife with mismanagement, with employees accepting rides in private jets, surfing porn while on the job: S. Elizabeth Birmbaum, appointed by Obama to lead the MMS, was sacked. When asked in a press conference if she resigned or was fired, Obama could not give an answer, instead kicking the ball to Ken Salazar: The Obama administration gave Deepwater Horizon a "categorical exclusion," bypassing much needed environmental impact studies, and approved the exploration project on April 6, 2009.

While Obama may be correct in saying this disaster could have a long-lasting impact on how energy policy is shaped, he'd do well not to draw too much attention to the reasons why this particular instance happened.

'Cause it all leads back to him.

This guy is lost.

It's not absurd. You are dealing with a man that lives in his own cocoon where he does not allow ideological dissent.

Everything he has done with this disaster has been done not to stop it but to capitalize off of it. Delaying any reaction, shunning offers of help, refusing to deploy miles of boom that would have kept oil off the beaches... He doesn't want to solve the problem he wants to use it. Forcing America into a new depression to create a "green" economy is his goal. He will do his level best to take over the energy industry just like his idol Hugo Chavez. Unfortunately for us Hugo will probably be seen to have done a better job of running his country when obama is finished.

Looks to me as if Obama is trying to change the narrative of this debacle.

"One of the biggest leadership challenges for me going forward is going to be to make sure that we draw the right lessons from this disaster," he said.

Funny thing about that line is that he may not know what it means to most americans. Obama might pretend he has something to teach us. But the lesson most americans have learned is that this man and his administration are essentially clueless when leadership is required.

Was it not Obama's white house web site, referencing Katrina that stated on 1/20/09:
"He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur."

But, when all else fails, Obama "..vowed to make a "bold" push for a new energy law even as the calamity continues to unfold.

There's no longer any doubt. Bidden is the smart one in the White House.

I can't remember any former president who has been this much of an expert on vapid. He causes my eyes to glaze over. Lucky the Queen of England got the iPod of his speeches early in the administration. If she had gotten that gift after 4 years of this drivel it would almost be considered an act of aggression.

Don't forget it is the Democrat's fault we are not drilling in ANWR, the oil shale fields in North and South Dakota, and in shallower waters. In all 3 locations, it would have been far easier to cap the well and end this disaster. Why is it Canada can successfully extract oil from shale without a problem right on the other side of the border and we can't do it here. Why are we not building nuclear power plants which provide 80% of the power in France. I don't think there has been any disasters there.
People like Thomas Friedman, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of these arrogant elites sit in their climate controlled mansions and tell those of us who live in places like the northeast to ride bikes to work to do our part to help wean this nation off of oil while maintaining the pristine nature of teh wilderness that no one can visit except them and the caribou.

So glad you look at the whole picture before you make a political cause out of it.
