Froma Harrop - Uninformed Dumbass of the Day

Froma-Harrop -dumbass.jpg
You know there's an old saying. It's better to be thought the Dumbass of the Day than open your uninformed mouth and remove all doubt.

Froma Harrop decided to forsake that advise. In a mind numbingly stupid column, she identified the real culprit of the Gulf oil spill.... The State of Louisiana.

A modest proposal: The federal government should take over Louisiana. Might as well, at this point.

"We will do whatever is necessary to help the Gulf Coast and its people recover from this tragedy," President Obama said this week from the Oval Office.

Louisiana has had more than its share of tragedies in recent years, and some, such as Hurricane Katrina, could be deemed acts of nature. But whatever the cause, every calamity that befalls Louisiana is made worse by its corrupt civic culture.

HUH? How exactly has "Louisiana's corrupt civic culture" made the spill worse? The dumbass doesn't say. Silly me, I thought the people screwing it up were from Great Britain and Chicago.

Does she blame Florida, Alabama or other Gulf states for the spill? Nope. The uninformed dumbassery continues:

It's hardly news that Louisiana's political class is not all it could be. But there comes a time when the U.S. taxpayer can no longer write blank checks to cover its dysfunction.

Louisiana should be a rich state. It has the climate, location, waterfront and all-around beauty that any director of economic development would die for. But Louisiana doesn't seem able to move beyond its dependence on oil.

Did I mention she was uninformed? Mining (including oil and gas) accounts for just 16% of the state's GDP. But research is over-rated.

And as for the 'blank check' uninformed doesn't begin to describe her. While other oil producing states get a 50% royalty on oil produced in their state, Louisiana gets just 1%. -- Give us the same deal the other states get and you'll see streets lined with gold.

But then the Uninformed Dumbass brings out the most Uninfomred Dumbass argument of them all...

Much of southern Louisiana is under sea level and periodically floods. No sane person would build in these low-lying areas were it not for the federal taxpayer, who subsidizes flood coverage where private insurers would never tread.

Sigh.... Does she actually do any research to see which states flood the most? Nope. Does she mention any other states that might flood more? Nope. Does she ever mention the state of Pennsylvania and how much it floods? Nope.

But the final uninformed insult to our intelligence was that after a week of stories about Louisiana finally ignoring the Feds and just taking matters into our own hands to clean up the mess, the arrogant uninformed Froma Harrop titles her blog post (which will remain linkless) "Louisiana can't take care of itself."

OH? She didn't mention we commandeered our own Navy because nobody else was putting the boats to work. (funny link btw) -- She also doesn't mention our Coonass Engineering Department which has invented one of the most effective oil sucking devices ever*... until the Feds shut them down.

No... Froma Harrop couldn't be bothered to do any research or get any facts on her side to say anything intelligent... She just threw out a bunch of tired, bigoted, cliched insults to a southern state and basked in the glow that she was so much smarter than the folks in Louisiana.

But in reality... She's just a dumbass.

* I can't find a picture of it but some Coonasses figured out if you took a couple a standard vacuum trucks and parked them on a standard barge that (duh) you had a pretty efficient way to go vacuum oil... and it worked great until the Coast Guard freaked out. I'll look for a picture.

Oh... And Mrs.Harrop if you read this and object to my name calling.. Well.. I have few links just for you. - But I doubt you'll get it.

I don't see the nexus with the oil spill, but fixing Louisiana's corrupt civic culture is easy: apply the RICO statute to the Democrat Party.

The Republicans have their odd crook, God knows, but for entrenched, systemic, shameless corruption and electoral fraud nobody is within hailing distance of the Democrats. Every major city political machine from Tammany Hall 150 years ago to Daley's Chicago today has been founded and run by Democrats.

Even Lee Ward, Adrienne Browne and Steve Crickmore have to admit that that's true.

Wet/Dry Shop-vacs work great for picking up just about anything including thick oily water which I imagine can be sold back to BP and processed for a tidy profit.

Sure, just take over any state that has a history of corruption, but finally got tired of it enough to elect a reasonably competent governor to clean out the swamps - so to speak. (Sounds like NJ is next on the take-over list). Also, one must smack down the same governor(s) who are looking mighty attractive to challenge the Big O.

Louisiana has its faults, but I love my home state. I am heartbroken for my friends on the gulf and the destruction wrought by the spill.

I have seen other commentators blame Louisiana because its "in bed with the oil industry". An NPR commentator from Portland OR expressed disdain for the people of Grand Isle and their rough neck jobs - you see, it's their own fault they are in this environmental and economic mess because they depended on the evil oil industry for a job. I want to get Portland guy to send 45K plus insurance benefits to a random family of 4 at Grand Isle. I bet he doesn't want to do that. Most of those folks in LA are hard workers and just want to provide a living for their families. It's easy to be righteous from a perch in Oregon, with your white collar job, sipping your latte, driving a hybrid (which still needs gas), emailing from a computer which uses electricity - perhaps generated by using some of those oil based fuels.

I wish I lived in the fairy tale world of some of these people. It must be a nice place to be.

Much of southern Louisiana is under sea level and periodically floods.

This Coonass calls bs on that. Much of Southern Louisiana is not under sea level. New Orleans is under sea level, that's the result of Iberville trying to set it up for the Dutch to take New Orleans from the French (Iberville was pissed off at Bienville). It has nothing to do with Louisiana the U.S. State.

The Atchafalaya Basin used to flood periodically, but that ended when the feds decided to hold the Mississippi to a course it doesn't want to be on.

Upriver from Louisiana floods much more that Southern Louisiana does.

This Coonass sends the finger to this dumbass.

RE: "whatever the cause, every calamity that befalls Louisiana's corrupt civic culture"

That is probably true. Every time there is a disaster and money gets thrown around to "fix" the problem, corrupt people try to grab the money. (Sort of like money spent on disaster relief by the UN.) However, it doesn't justify taking over an entire state, and even if it did, Chicago and Detroit should be taken first.

You also have to love the way modern liberals act: they embrace the idea of the Federal takeover at every opportunity. It's the universal answer to every problem. Fascists.

RE: "It's hardly news that Louisiana's political class is not all it could be. But there comes a time when the U.S. taxpayer can no longer write blank checks to cover its dysfunction."

ROFL. Washington's political class -- particularly under the current Democratic regime -- is not anywhere near all it could be, either. But generations of U.S. taxpayers will be trying to pay-down the blank checks those dysfunctional clowns are writing.

What it shows is that libs have difficulty dealing with things they do not understand. She does not understand Louisianna, who lives there, how they make their living, how they live their lives etc. She does not understand how they are dealing with the oil spill and does not understand their concerns.

Therefore her answer is to have the federal government control it. Libs like that answer because it relieves them of the obligation of having to worry about it. Libs don't donate to charity because they see the government as the source of answers. If you don't understand it or cannot deal with the anxiety provoked by a problem, just sweep it into the black hole that is government and forget about it (yes I know Lee, I used the term "Black hole" thus proving that my comment is rife with racial overtones and animosity).

She doesn't really care if the problem is fixed she simply wants to assuage her feelings and relieve herself of any obligations to her fellow human beings.

Paul! Welcome back, always good to see you posting!

Now, I know there's lots of food and music down that way to keep you busy, but the news that Froma Harrop is a dumbass isn't quite a "scoop" - although her work often contains scoops of something.

Her career does expose the weakness in the Legacy Media's claim to superiority over mere lowly bloggers because of their "layers of editors and fact-checkers." When editors and fact-checkers begin to read her columns, they are instantly seized by intense vomiting and intestinal cramps, and usually need to take a few days off. This leaves the news department short-handed, so her stuff goes out unchecked.

Naturally no news organization wants to hobble itself like that, but the Diversity Resources Department of the Providence Journal (her base) demanded they hire a dumbass white horse-faced woman immediately or upset their delicate ethnic balance.
