John Locke:

The video is produced by a group called "Climate Depot" and the are funded by Exxon and other oil interests.

ClimateDepot.com is being financed by the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, a nonprofit in Washington that advocates for free-market solutions to environmental issues. Public tax filings for 2003-7 (the last five years for which documents are available) show that the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the ExxonMobil Foundation and foundations associated with the billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife, a longtime financier of conservative causes, including being the primary source of money used to fund attacks against Bill Clinton during the Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky eras of his presidency [1]. According to a report issued by the Union of Concerned Scientists, from 1998-2005, approximately 23% of the total ExxonMobil funding for the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow was directed by ExxonMobil for climate change activities [p. 32].

Craig Rucker, a co-founder of the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, said the committee got a third of its money from other foundations. However, Rucker would not identify them or say how much his foundation would pay Marc Morano. Rucker did say that ExxonMobil did not contribute anything to the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow in 2008 [2].

You may want to note how many of those record highs were before World War 2. You may also want to note that many of the locations with historically recent highs recorded, were not accessible for consistent and reliable temperature records until very recently.

More to the point, the aggregate collection of records shows NO TREND.

Numbers can be manipulated (the NOAA records cited came not from scientists or even meteorologists, but from the Department of Commerce. You might want to stop and ask why), but the one thing we know by now, is that the term Climate Science is a contradiction in terms.

"Jeff L"I see you ... (Below threshold)

"Jeff L"

I see you and I raise you

It is clear from the following sections that NOAA performs manipulations to create false impressions from the data, including assigning temperature increases were there is zero data. Spot Check - Northern Africa It is apparently much hotter than usual in the Sahara. But where is the data? Several of the 5×5 degree grids have zero stations (indicated by the black arrows). Many of the others have one station with very limited historical data. There seems to be an inverse correlation between the number of stations and warming - more stations in a 5×5 degree grid and less warming is observed.

Key to the manipulation was the reduction of monitoring stations worldwide from 6,000 to approximately 1,500 around 1990. The problem with this is that the stations are still mostly there. They are operational and measurements are taken every day. The data is just not used in the final determinations. In addition, the stations that are excluded from the data analysis are primarily in the cooler areas either in mountain regions or located in the more northern reaches. An example of this is California, where there are remaining only 4 temperature stations. One is in San Francisco while the remaining three are all in Los Angeles. Certainly no bias there. Well maybe just a little. Another really egregious example is Bolivia. If you look at the current results for Bolivia you will see a bright red area indicating significant warming. The only problem with these data is the temperatures are actually from a lower altitude monitoring station 1200km away. To compound this false recording, there has been no temperature data taken there in the past 20 years! So much for Bolivia Warming as well as the subsequent Global Warming.

If I said that Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb were colder than normal the climate change numb skulls would say 4 months is not a trend, that's weather not climate. So if the last 4 months are the hottest on record then it's weather not climate 4 months is not a trend. We had an entire decade that the planent didn't warm and now we have 4 months that it supposedly did and we're all back up in arms again.

Nah, just kidding.

'Course, this is all amateur stuff. The real pros rely on instruments that are next to air conditioners, barbecue grills, and have had their surroundings recently paved. Otherwise, it's just too easy.

And one MORE time-... (Below threshold)

And one MORE time--anyone who denies global warming OR cooling is displaying stupidity. Just a cursory look will show these phenomona have ocurred throughout history.

To posit that man can materially affect either, except in extremely localized circumstances is displaying monumental arrogance.

The ONLY practical solution to either is adapting to the particular, thus surviving, or failing to do so, and dieing. That,IMHO, renders argument about which particular currently happening quite moot.
