Did you know Mexicans were in America before Americans were?

No?  Perhaps you should talk to the President:

"Long before America was even an idea, this land of plenty was home to many peoples. The British and French, the Dutch and Spanish, to Mexicans, to countless Indian tribes. We all shared the same land," President Obama told the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

For those not following... we became Americans in 1776.

Mexicans became Mexicans in 1821.

The question now is... when did Obama begin to say anything that might win him votes?

Oh, come on. The Mexicans were already in the 55th state by 1776.
On a serious note, is he trying to set up amnesty for illegal Mexicans with the logic of, you know, Mexicans were here, then left, so we should let them back in as if they never left? What is he trying to say with this inane, on many levels, statement?

Socialists have their own version of history.

I'm surprised Barry doesn't also repeat the stupid mantra "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us!"

Which would only make sense if you were 157 years old, seeing as the Gadsden Purchase, establishing the southern US border with Mexico occurred June 24, 1853.

And there wasn't very much "sharing" going on between Americans and Mexicans after America became an idea and Mexicans became Mexicans.

Perhaps Obama didn't get much schooling on things like the Texas Revolution and the Mexican-American War. As grade school children in America, we learned about the Alamo. As a grade school student in Jakarta, Obama was learning the Muslim call to prayer.

Nah, give California (and Nancy Pelosi) back to Mexico. The country is better off without. And then we'll sell the water that California currently steals from the Colorado to the Mexicans as they look after the lawns.

By "share" does Obama mean:

--The French and Indian War
--The Seven Years' War (betw: the Brits and French, part of which took place on North American soil)
--Numerous bloody encounters between colonists and "countless Indian tribes."
--King Philp's War betw. the Dutch and colonists and Indians

Hmm, that's not how my parents taught me to share. But maybe that's just me.

And to think, those took all of about 5 minutes to look up. But I guess history is hard to look up when you're busy trying to revise it, I suppose.

Steve Crickmore:

Where have you been Rick? Mexico as a Republic to much fanfare, is celebrating its bicentenial this year. But the identifiable name Mexico for Mexicans is older as Obama alluded to, older than America for Americans of the colonies of `North America, not New France or Upper and Lower Canada. From Wikipedia:

When the Spanish conquistadors besieged México-Tenochtitlan in 1521, it was almost completely destroyed. It was rebuilt during the following three years, after which it was designated as a municipality and capital of the vice-royalty of New Spain. In 1524 the municipality of Mexico City was established, known as México Tenustitlan, and as of 1585 became officially known simply Ciudad de México.[1] Mexico was used only to refer to the city, and later to a province within New Spain. It was not until the independence of the vice-royalty of New Spain that "Mexico" became the traditional and conventional short-form name of the country.

Whatever its meanings, the name America filled a need. By the middle of the 16th century it had caught on, and mapmakers were using it to define not only South but North America.

Steve Crickmore:

And as for Texas...

The Republic of Texas was created from part of the Mexican state Coahuila y Tejas as a result of the Texas Revolution. Mexico was in turmoil as leaders attempted to determine an optimal form of government. In 1835, when President Antonio López de Santa Anna abolished the Constitution of 1824, granting himself enormous powers over the government, wary colonists in Texas began forming Committees of Correspondence and Safety.

You know...those who don't/won't think for themselves. Those who want someone to feed them the "truth" because they're too busy being entitled and watching Oprah and Jerry Springer to pull aside the curtain.

There's not 57 states? There weren't Mexicans living here before America was a dream? America isn't a Muslim nation? George Bush didn't give the middle class tax cuts? LIES, all LIES! These things are true because Dear Leader deems them true!

Steve Crickmore:

If you listen to Obama`s actual words to his Hispanic audience, which would take 10 seconds, that is probably beyond your capabilities, so great is your hate and bigotry but Obama doesn't say "Mexicans" he says "mexican"; there is a distinction, one is an adjective as opposed to a nationality? Do conservatives ever do the slightest empirical research? any? or is that what makes them conservative ?

How else would one describe that part of the world from the 16th century to the September 16th 1810, before they became Mexicans.

Obama`s lumping so many peoples in the New World is a little clumsy, but the audience here seems to take pride in the malapropisms of Bush and Palin, while at the same time censuring Obama for something he did't say.

"whole scale rages"

"Whole". "Scale". "Rages".

So, how many mosques were burned to the ground?

How many muslims were killed?

How many muslims were attacked?

How many muslims had "fatwas" placed on their heads?

Wassat? Zero you say? Really? How can that be?

After all, there were "whole scale rages" going on!

"Whole scale rages"!!

The body count must be huge!

Once again, li'l stevie crickmore (like all lefties), take time out from their busy schedule of defending actual murderous islamic radical activities to utter harsh comments against those who would never stoop to the same level as li'l stevie's radical islamist political allies.

Epador, congratulations on listening to that snippet,-which is more than real clear politics did who couldn't even give an accurate rendition. Here is the complete speech.

Obama obviously is a little tired? And how many times can you say Hispanic community/ latinos? latinas. The edited part of his speech which he was talking about peoples becoming one people to accomodate all are people is part his signature larger theme of the American dream.

"There is no us and them, There is only one America. There is no black america, there is no latino america, there is only the United Sates of America.."

The Hispanics are far away are biggest emerging ethnic group, but I can`t see the GOP appealing to them when most of you mock them. The GOP will have to appeal to their base of wackos and the crazies for six months to choose a nominee in their winner take all primaries, which skews the results.

I remember the last time all eight or nine of the GOP candidates unamiously were adamant against repealing "don't ask don't tell," which anyone under the age of 25 knows it is completely ludicrous. guess I am still a hateful homo bigot

It is curious who the GOP end up with after they devour one another in 2012, Romney, Palin, Huckabee, Scott Brown? Good luck!

This is what you come back with after you say this: (crickmore):"A few days ago it was a non-existent terrorist plot on the Pope that sparked whole scale rages on Muslims."

Again: define "whole scale rage on muslims"

Define it.

Elaborate on that.

Tell us about this dark time in our nations history.

Or were you just getting "the vapors" because your radical-islamist political allies were subject to a few first-amendment allowed criticisms on a few blogs?

It's not a stretch to believe that some of your radical islamist supremacist pals are gunning for the Pope given the number of Nuns and other Catholic church members, Christian adults and Christian school children that have been murdered all over the world by some of your radical islamist supremacist pals.

Hey, you know who no longer gets "the vapors" over "some dustmen" who are "overheard just joking" about killing some non-Muslim?

Theo Van Gogh.

One of the perils of being as profoundly ignorant as is the sail-eared simpleton -- or as much the foreigner as he (who entered college an Indonesian, and came out a natural born American) -- is to have no feel for or any sense of America's history. You can't have it both ways. If you want to assume that Obama is referring to America as meaning the U.S. then to be consistent Mexicans would need to mean citizens of country of Mexico, in which case Obama is wrong. To go your way as using any name reference to Mexico or America. He would be wrong once again since the reference to America exist long before Mexico.

Obama certainly was wrong in trying to make it sound like all those groups "shared" the land peacefully. The Indian tribes themselves fought and killed each other as did the Aztecs, Mayans, etc.

Wayne, the edited version cut out what Obama said next" We all shared the same land. We didn't always get along". and again, Obama never said "Mexicans", he said mexican.
