'Communists found progressive pastors to be "the biggest suckers of them all."'

Over at Big Peace, Sun Tzu posted a Christmas Day interview with Dr. Paul Kengor, professor of political science at Grove City College who is also the author of DUPES: How America's Adversaries Have Manipulated Progressives for a Century:

Big Peace: The communists didn't like Christmas in particular.

Kengor: They despised it, like a vampire fleeing a cross. In Czechoslovakia, communists co-opted traditional Christmas carols and symbols and replaced them with things like red stars instead of the Star of Bethlehem. In Romania, Christmas trees were banned. In Dupes, I quote from the Soviet archives a December 25, 1919 edict from Lenin ordering that anyone caught taking off work that day for "Nikola" should be "taken out and shot."

Big Peace: And these communists, who locked up and even executed Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, sang a different tune to liberal Christians?

Kengor: Yes. They cynically, contemptuously targeted the Religious Left. They knew that Religious Left Christians agreed with them on certain sympathies--workers rights, wealth redistribution. The communists exploited that trust, sometimes invoking the language of "social justice," to enlist liberals in their petitions, marches.

Big Peace: Where did they have their best success?

Kengor: That's easy. The mainline Protestant denominations: Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church USA, and Methodist Church.

Herb Romerstein, the veteran investigator of the communist movement, and himself an ex-communst, told me that communists found progressive pastors to be "the biggest suckers of them all."

There's much more and it's eye-opening.  Check it out, pass it on and think of Dr. Kengor the next time you're sitting in the pews of a main line church hearing idiocy spewed from the pulpit.

If I remember correctly, the term was "useful idiots". Sadly, the same kinds of people still serve the same purpose today on behalf of communism and islamic radicalism.

It is easily argued that even the Catholic Church seems to have forgotton it charter of salvation and that paradise is other-world stuff as they shifted their focus from picking up our cross daily and finding salvation through avoiding sin, and doing God's will, to that of "social justice" a euphamism for worldly paradise

St. Paul warned about the powers and principalities. Madeline Murray O'Hare's son bolted and soon became a minister who exposed the satanic worship behind getting God out of the public square (prayer in schools was just the first shot) and he wrote exposing the satanic basis behind both the Nazis and the communists. Far too many evils are hiding in and outside of the churches, under the label of social justice. These are the same people who were perfectly capable of getting this once God-based nation to believe that killing off fifty million of His most precious unborn creations is a good thing called "choice.".

Why did the American Communist Party openly seek (check their goals) to destroy the family and our culture unless they well understood the connection between God, family and a well functioning society. Their success is stunning and frightful. Things such as the spectacle of the Notre Dame Obama-messiah worship, and DADT are merely symptoms of what's going on to turn man from seeking salvation in heaven and diverting his quest to the almighty state.

One has to but ponder the eagerness in which the left destroys life and cultures while pretending to be on its side.

The fact is that what is happening out there is far larger than just political. We were made in the image of God, but far too many of us have preferred to remake God into our image, foolishly forgetting that there will come a day of judgment.

It should come as no surprise then that these are the very same denominations that are shrinking while evangelical churches are growing by leaps and bounds.

I think that a lot of people in the mainline denominations no longer think of the church as an organization founded by God, but rather see it as a social organization whose purpose is not to spread the gospel, but rather to provide social services for the community.

Alas my parents fall into that category.

Walter Cronanty:

Reminds me of an article I read back in the late 70s or early 80s [IIRC] wherein I came across, for the first time, the term "auto-martyrdom" [don't know why I remember it other than this stark description of what actually occurred]. The article described "mainstream" [read - left-wing] Christian denominations sending funds, for "humanitarian purposes" of course, to many of the communist fronts then fomenting war/revolution in various African nations. The communist fronts would use the "humanitarian" funds to by weapons. And guess against whom, among others, the weapons would be used? Christian missionaries. Thus, the mainstream denominations would fund the killing of their own people - and, voila, auto-martyrdom. These folks aren't just "useful idiots" - they aid and abet murderers.

Walter Cronanty:

Not quite totally off topic. In trying to find the article I referenced above, I remembered that at least one of the "mainstream" organizations mentioned as funding the killing of American missionaries was the World Council of Churches. Thus, I googled that organization, and found this - these people are still left-wing, global government worshipping idiots:
"Time for Climate Justice
Together with an international alliance of Christian organizations, the WCC continues to campaign for a fair, ambitious and legally binding climate deal in favour of the world's poorest. Ahead of the next United Nations climate talks in Cancún, Mexico, in December 2010, they are organizing a photo petition to take your message directly to the UN.
*** WCC is a member of TckTckTck - an unprecedented global alliance, representing hundreds of millions of people from all walks of life. It is made up of leading international, national and local organizations addressing environment, development, poverty, human rights, health and humanitarian issues. It represents faith-based groups, youth groups, trade unions and individuals all calling for a fair, ambitious and binding climate change agreement. The world is ready!"

Wasn't just the religious left. IIRC, there were some mighty fertile recruiting grounds in the "Ivy League" universities as well.

After all, they were "educated".
