What a difference a President makes

Nancy Pelosi, press conference, September 7, 2006:

[E]ven if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done ... is done. And even to capture him now I don't think makes us any safer.

Nancy Pelosi, earlier today:

The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qaida. ... I salute President Obama, his national security team, Director Panetta, our men and women in the intelligence community and military, and other nations who supported this effort for their leadership in achieving this major accomplishment. ... [T]he death of Osama bin Laden is historic....

Left-wing hypocrisy is so commonplace pointing it out is almost trite. Ms. Pelosi was among the worst sufferers of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

We must try to be objective when it comes to President Obama. He deserves credit for killing O-B-L. The reason this raid was possible, however, was because Barry generally continued W's intelligence gathering methods and policies, which finally bore fruit in the form of finding and disposing of Terrorist #1.

Pelosi is a way over the top, buffoon. I wish we had trades in politics as we do in sports. You can be thankful that she didn´t go further and say that Obama has taken his rightful place among the country´s "immortals", as she did the night when known cheater Barry Bonds hit his steroid tainted record breaking home run.

Hey, Steve? Just whose side put her in for Speaker for four years, and keeps her as Minority Leader?

She's YOUR elected leadership, Steve. You get to own her.

Damn shame the first woman to be Speaker of the House had to be so dimwitted and partisan.

History gave her the opportunity of a lifetime and she blew it.

Either that, or it's the botox.

Steve Crickmore:

As for ownership Jay, yes she is bit like Iraq was for Bush. Pelosi is electoral posion; she only had an 8% favorable rating with independents, 61% unfavorable, in a poll conducted last October. To continue the sports anaolgy, she appears to think she´s on a long term, no trade contract. I wish we could hide her somewhere, in the lineup, since the septunarian won´t retire. The silver lining of losing the Congressional election ,and Obama having less success, is she is out of sight more so there is less of her nauseating, even for many Democrats, partisan crowing.

Jay, regarding ownership, Pelosi is one thing that the Dem supporters must hold their noses and take reluctant ownership of, but the same goes for the GOP and their supporters who must take ownership of McCain who was your experienced candidate on security, against the inexperienced Democrat naive candidate.
Yes, What a difference a President makes.

In July 2008, CNN's Larry King interviewed then-presidential candidate John McCain. The host asked the Republican senator, "If you were president and knew that bin Laden was in Pakistan, you know where, would you have U.S. forces go in after him?"

McCain said he would not. (unlike Obama)

McCain; "Larry, I'm not going to go there and here's why: because Pakistan is a sovereign nation.

Thanks John your faith in Pakistan´s miltary to get Osama rather (than protect him) was touching.

Well look at the differences around minute two to five on this tape of the first debate. Remarkable prescience by whom? the green, wet behind the ears candidate and President most of you ridicule.

Hey Steve,

Another angle on "ownership." Since Obama got OBL on intel derived from the shitheads at evil Gitmo and enhanced interrogation techniques on other shitheads in foreign secret detention centers, are you now owning what Obama so pompously moralized against--the unspeakable Bush/Cheney torture chambers? The left can't have it both ways--can't take back all their bullshit about supposed "torture" and then take clear credit for its fruit.

But they are trying to have it both ways. The White House is already out saying that they believe that waterboarding can yield useful information.

So they are happy to real the benefits of the intel we gained under Bush but still want to posture for the fawning media and the idiot left and for those constituencies it will work.

Let them. Anyone with a functioning brain can see that they are wrong about the interrogation of prisoners. They can pose and lie to the cameras but the rest of us know better.

Did McCain mean he would not go into Pakistan or he would not discuss what he would do or would not do if Osama was in a sovereign nation other than Afghanistan or Iraq?

According to another one of those White House briefings of reporters designed to suck up all available credit for good news, President Obama's homeland security advisor reveals that it was a really tense time in the air-conditioned White House as unidentified U.S. Navy SEALs closed in on the world's most wanted man after midnight a half a world away.
If it would make Obama look better, the White House would claim that it was Obams’s house that UBL was living in.

Wrong again.
Most commenters here held their noses and voted for McCain.

Still no matter how bad McCain was as a candidate, hell, even if he gets dimentia in his elder years, he's still galaxies better than Pelosi.

Nice diversion though.

Hey Steve and Chico and Liberal John

Since Obama ordered our troops to invade a sovereign country without UN or congressional approval and kill someone who was apparantly a guest of that govt isnt Obama guilty of war crimes?

jim m:

You are correct. The targeted killing of a private citizen is illegal according to international law. Had GW Bush done it they would be demanding that he stand trial, some Spanish judge would already be preparing charges against him. But because a lefty dem did it they will ignore their scruples because any sense of morality they may possess is subservient to their desires for control and power.

The only thing they really feel a "Fierce moral urgency"(TM) for is for holding power.

retired military..Osama was a spent but symbolic force. The operation doesn´t seem to have been so difficult, after all it wasn´t in enemy territory? It mught have been useful to capture and interrogate him and find out who was protecting him. Not sure what weapons he had at that compound and how difficult that would have been, for the special forces to capture him alive and remain unharmed. Where was is going to escape to the miltary academy or garrison down the street? He was a Sunni, so I'm thinking we could have sent him..to Baghdad to be tried, ala Saddam style, where was very hated and hds killed so many innocent shiities mainly with his suicide bombers. I think they woud have welcomed him and loved to interrogate him . As it was, Osama got off pretty lightly and deserved a worse fate than what the Seals gave him.

It could have been very tough indeed, retired mulitary, let´s await the details. The risks might have been worth it, to swoop Osama out? The wild card is the surrounding second brigade garrison fort. What did they do? They are a block away or two away, close by anyway, and the military academy four blocks away, probably just watch? How about all the retired generals living in the area. It took 48 minutes and the noise and light were extensive.
