All the news that's fit to scrub and edit

Interesting tidbit of news involving The Gray Lady.

Let's first go to the Ignatius Insight Scoop for context:

This revealing glimpse into the mind of secularists brought to you by The New York Times, reporting about Jill Abramson, the new editor of The New York Times, who ardently proclaims the gospel of, well, The New York Times:

Ms. Abramson, 57, said that as a born-and-raised New Yorker, she considered being named editor of The Times to be like "ascending to Valhalla."

"In my house growing up, The Times substituted for religion," she said. "If The Times said it, it was the absolute truth."

That was on Thursdy the 3rd. If you go to the New York Times today, you'll read the following:

Ms. Abramson, 57, said being named executive editor was "the honor of my life" and like "ascending to Valhalla" for someone who read The Times as a young girl growing up in New York. "We are held together by our passion for our work, our friendship and our deep belief in the mission and indispensability of The Times," she said. "I look forward to working with all of you to seize our future. In this thrilling and challenging transition, we will cross to safety together."

Imagine that.  The New York Times hiding rather than revealing truth.  How odd.

The Sulzberger-Ochs family ... (Below threshold)
Jim Addison:

The Sulzberger-Ochs family which controls the NYT has prospered from it's property. Over 200 family members are solely dependent up the company's dividends (paid only to their special class of stock) for their income and lifestyles. But after "Punch" Sulzberger passed the ball to his worthless son "Pinch," the property began a rapid decline as newspapermen were pushed aside and ideologues and sycophants promoted.

If not for the curious largesse of a Mexican billionaire, they would likely already be reduced to begging on the street, no useful skill being known to be possessed by any of the family.

Sooner or later one might expect their benefactor to run out of either patience, money, or both.

I find the "cross to safety... (Below threshold)
Jeff Blogworthy:

I find the "cross to safety" statement nearly as bizarre as the Times religion. What does that mean? Is she supposed to be a crossing guard, guiding the poor helpless dullards who can't get it themselves? Or is it something else? Crossing from where, to where? Safety from what danger?

"I look forward to working with all of you to seize our future."

Well they didn't try to hide the truth that they are just the propaganda wing of the Obama administration. She pretty much strait up admitted it with that quote.

No that it should surprise anyone with more than 2 brain cells...

It used to be that people would talk of "Building a future together". Now the libs talk of "seizing the future". "Seizing" implies taking something that is not yours by force or diktat of authority. I think it interesting that the NYT now believes that the future is something that does not belong to them, but that they should take from the rest of us for their benefit.

I guess I'm out of the loop. I actually thought the NYT ceased publication and was disbanded a few years ago.

In 1984 Fritz Mondale ran for president insisting he was going to "fight for my future."

Fortunately, I fought back.
