Trivia Time!

OK, I've been slacking off a bit. On the other hand, my naval fiction piece is in the final stages and just passed 30 chapters and 25K words, so once that's done I'll have a hunk of non-political stuff to publish here, so that itch is pretty thoroughly scratched.

In the meantime, I've got a trivia question (one I came up with on my own, honest!) I'm going to toss out.

What do musicians Mark Knopfler & Guy Fletcher (of Dire Straits), Ray Manzarek, Ben Folds, Taylor Hanson (of Hanson) and Dweezil Zappa all have in common?

If you need a hint, comedian Cheech Marin and voiceover artists Don Pardo and Tress MacNeille also share the same distinction.

But not in this exclusive list are Tommy Chong, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Dave Grohl, Meat Loaf, Madonna, Mick Jagger, or Justin Beiber.

Prizes? We don't need no stinking prizes!

Update: jim m pretty much got it -- at least, close enough for me. They've all performed on Weird Al Yankovic albums.

Mark Knopfler & Guy Fletcher made their performing a condition of granting permission for Al to do "Money For Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies Theme" (title insisted upon by lawyers)

Ray Manzarek played on Al's parody of the Doors' style, "Craig's List."

Ben Folds played the piano on Al's parody of his style, "Why Does This Always Happen to Me?"

Taylor Hanson plays for unspecified tracks on Al's upcoming album, "Alpocalypse" (due out later this month)

Dweezil Zappa did the guitar solo at the beginning of Al's Frank Zappa parody, "Genius In France."

Don Pardo played... well, himself as "the announcer" on "I Lost On Jeopardy."

Tress McNeille did the Lucille Ball impersonation on "Ricky" and the Fran Drescher soundalike who says "How Ya Doin', Bernie?" in "Pretty Fly For A Rabbi."

And Cheech Marin did a Spanish monologue in the middle of "Taco Grande."

I almost threw in Avril Lavigne, as she co-wrote Al's parody of "Complicated," "A Complicated Song," but I wanted to limit it to actual performers.

For the record, voicing a Simpsons character would not be a correct answer, as Michael Jackson, Tommy Chong and Mick Jagger have all done voices.
