Pity that American talent shows seem to spend an inordinate amount of time during the tryout episodes highlighting talentless performers or nonsensical acts, instead of trying to find inspirational people like him.

Awesome! It shows that anybody can make good and that we shouldn´t blame our failures on our circumstances.
There was no show of self-pity on his part, and no criticizing others for his suffering.

Life can make you bitter or it can make you better. This young man chose to make himself better. It's not his singing ability that makes him great, it's the attitude of his heart. He's great because his spirit has risen above the hardships of his life. He'd still be great even if he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Awesome life lesson for us all.
