A while ago, after the Beslan school massacre, I did some thinking and tried to predict what the next terrorist atrocity would be. I came up with hospitals. Then, after the Israelis foiled a plot to blow up a hospital (by a disfigured woman who was being offered free medical treatment at that hospital), I said “no more.” I wasn’t going to try to figure out their next atrocity — I couldn’t bring myself to plumb the depths of depravity and inhumanity a second time.
Had I, though, I might have looked at the Palestinians’ recent attempts to use teenagers as suicide bombers, and their appalling tendency to dress babies up as tiny little suicide bombers, with (hopefully) fake bomb belts and everything, and come up with this possibility.
Golda Meir said back in 1969 that “(p)eace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.” 36 years later, we see that we’re even further from that mark than we were then.
