Hate crimes

I find myself gravely disappointed in my fellow Americans this morning.

We are rapidly approaching the fifth anniversary of the attacks of 9/11, five full years since the War on Terror — waged by the other side for decades — finally escalated to the point where we started fighting back. In those five years, the whiners of the Council on American-Islamic Relations — among others — have been howling about their fears of “backlash” and “hate crimes” against Muslims for all the deaths, woundings, and carnage inflicted in the name of Allah. In fact, it’s step #3 in their stock comments on acts of terrorism:

1) “It was terrible, and don’t blame all Muslims for the actions of a few extremists.”

2) “It’s understandable how they would be so upset, given the way Muslims are being treated around the world. We need to look at how the world treats Muslims and get at the root causes.”

3) “We fear people will take reprisals against innocent Muslims, and demand authorities protect us.”

Anyway, as I was saying, here it is coming up on the 5th anniversary of 9/11, and what do we have? A couple of genuine hate crimes against Muslims. (Thanks to my friend Candy for pointing both out to me.)

First up, some idiot in Tennessee shoots up a Koran, then leaves it sitting at the front door of a Chattanoogamosque. Apparently somewhere on MySpace is a video of the guy buying the Koran, shooting it up, and then dropping it off, but I can’t find it.

And in Maine last week, a guy tossed a frozen pig’s head into a mosque in Lewiston. In this case, they’ve arrested the guy who did it.

So, after five years of CAIR issuing dire warnings against a wave of massive hate crimes and vigilante actions against Muslims, what do we have? One minor threat and one frat prank.

As I said, I am gravely disappointed in my fellow Americans. We can do better than this! If CAIR says has been an epidemic of hatred and violence against Muslims in retaliation for terrorist attacks, then it certainly must be true. And if the best we can manage is petty bullshit like this, then I fear for our nation.

Come on, people! Every day we see countless examples of how to properly terrorize Muslims — as demonstrated by other Muslims. We should be blowing up mosques, kidnapping and beheading them, arranging massacres in schools and markets, firing rockets into Muslim communities, and so on. They’ve been showing us the way for decades, and we have been very, very poor learners.

And as Americans, we’re better than that.

(Update: Typos corrected courtesy of this idiot, who can read individual words, but is utterly clueless when it comes to putting them together.)
