Reuters Retracts Iraqi Beheading Story

A couple of days ago I linked to Bob Owens’ post about a story the AP ran about 20 decapitated bodies (along with heads) found in Iraq. Bob was questioning whether or not the story was genuine since the sourcing was sketchy, at best. Reuters also ran the story which it now appears was a hoax. Newsbusters posted the following which Reuters ran today.

BAGHDAD, June 30 (Reuters) – Media reports attributed to Iraqi police of 20 decapitated bodies found south of Baghdad this week were untrue and may have been planted by insurgents to provoke revenge attacks, the U.S. military said on Saturday.
