Obama Offers Another Statement on Iran

This morning, after violence against Iranian protesters became worse, President Obama finally issued another, stronger worded, statement. This time he has finally condemned the government’s suppression of the Iranian citizens. Here’s a portion:

The Iranian government must understand that the world is watching. We mourn each and every innocent life that is lost. We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people. The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights.

It’s odd that the United States, which is usually the country that leads the rest of the world in the fight for freedom, is following everyone else. Patterico notes that while Iranians are getting shot, Obama was getting ice cream with his daughters. Mark Knoller thought it was so compelling that he documented what Obama, Sasha, and Malia ordered.

The world media has been shut out, but that is not stopping information from getting out. Iranians are using Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube to chronicle the uprising and post videos of all the violence Ahmadinejad’s thugs are perpetrating on his own citizens. If you are on Twitter, you will want to head over and follow the updates at #IranElection. Take a look at this message to other protesters that was just posted a few minutes ago:

luvfreedom007: PLEASE RT: BASIJI’S ARE BREAKING INTO HOUSES THEY MARKED EARLIER IN SHIRAZ & TEHRAN! STAY IN LARGE GROUPS WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS #iranelection

Ahmadinejad’s thugs are killing people in the streets. One young girl named Neda was killed, shot in the chest. Her death was caught on video. I have not yet had the nerve to watch it yet because it is so disturbing and graphic.

Now Gateway Pundit has reports of others being killed, as well.

I don’t think this will come to an end any time soon. Pray for the protesters.

Update: Some Twitter updates are reporting that foreign embassies are taking in injured protesters in order to keep them from going to hospitals where they will be arrested, if not shot. This update says the Canadian embassy is now taking injured.
